No. 9 Football Tops Charlotte in Home Opener

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 9 Ole Miss (2-0) defeated Charlotte (0-2) in its home opener, 41-9, inside Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium on Saturday night.
The Rebels won their 13th consecutive home game, which is the third-longest active streak in the FBS. Ole Miss has also won nine out of their last 10 games dating back to Oct. 25, 2025.
The Ole Miss offense led the way with five scores on six total drives in the first half, outgaining Charlotte, 245-118 in total yards. Trinidad Chambliss completed 90-percent of his passes and Kewan Lacy averaged 6.8 yards on the ground. Lacy extended his streak to 11 straight games with a rushing TD, the longest such streak by an Ole Miss player in recorded history (since 1956).
It was more of the same in the second half; Ole Miss was in control from start to finish. Backup quarterback, Deuce Knight and multiple reserves led an eight-play drive that went for 70 yards and resulted in a touchdown.
Offensive Leaders
Chambliss went 23-of-26 through the air for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Lacy added 87 yards on 13 carries with two scores. Ole Miss had six receivers with two or more catches. Deuce Alexander led the way with eight receptions and 76 yards on eight targets. Caleb Cunningham notched six receptions and 65 yards.
Defensive Leaders
Nick Cull recorded his first career interception and returned it for 38 yards. Luke Ferrelli led the Rebels in total tackles with six, including five solo stops in his second game with the program. The Rebel defense held Charlotte to 3-of-14 on third down.
First Quarter
Lacy recorded his second rushing touchdown of the season and 26th of his career on the opening drive of the game to give Ole Miss a 7-0 lead. Chambliss completed his first eight passes for 48 yards. After a pair of punts, Charlotte drove to the Ole Miss 26-yard line before the Rebels blocked the Niners field goal attempt. Lacy had seven carries for 58 yards with a long of 28 yards at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
Chambliss and Cook connected on a 14-yard strike to give the Rebels a 14-0 edge with 13:55 to go in the second. It marked Cook's first career touchdown. After a quick defensive stop, Ole Miss extended their lead to 21-0 with more than 200 yards of total offense with 8:39 to go. Lacy registered his second rushing touchdown of the game from two-yards out. Charlotte's offense sputtered for its second consecutive three-and-out and Lucas Carneiro drilled a 57-yard field goal to give Ole Miss a 24-0 lead. Carneiro's 57-yard make ties for the second-longest made kick in Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium history by an Ole Miss player. Right before halftime, Nick Cull intercepted Charlotte's Cole Gonzales for his first career interception. After Cull's return, Carneiro connected on his second field goal of the quarter to give Ole Miss a 27-0 lead at half.
Third Quarter
The Niners opened the second half with back-to-back 60-plus yard drives that ended in a pair of field goals. Ole Miss led Charlotte, 27-6, at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
Chambliss and company marched the ball down the field to extend their lead to 34-6. Chambliss tossed his second touchdown of the game to Horatio Fields from nine yards out. It was Fields' first touchdown as a Rebel. Charlotte added its third field goal of the half with 9:53 to go in the final period. Knight recorded his first career rushing touchdown for the Rebels to extend the lead to 41-9.

That evening, Ole Miss and No. 8 LSU (2-0) will renew the Magnolia Bowl rivalry inside Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
