Scouting the Longhorns
Texas is led by sixth year Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and enters Saturday's matchup with a record of 4-2 on the season. The Longhorns began the season ranked as the No. 5 team in the country and have experienced an up and down season so far. Texas began their season with a victory at home over Texas State before defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes at home, a game in which they overcame a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to stun then the number one team in the country. Texas would round out non-conference by defeating UTSA at home and would start SEC Conference play on the road with a narrow victory in Knoxville over Tennessee. Since then, the Longhorns have dropped their last two games to Oklahoma and Florida, losing both by a combined score of six points. Texas has a balanced passing and rushing attack that has elite talent across the board. The Longhorns have thrown for 1,295 yards through the air and have rushed for 810 yards on the ground. Although offensively, Texas struggles to move the ball down the field, going three-and-out 34.3 percent of the time, ranking worst in the conference. Defensively, the Longhorns rank as the No. 12 overall defense statistically in the country.
Three Players to Watch: Ole Miss Rebels
- Trinidad Chambliss - Chambliss threw for three passing touchdowns for the fifth time in his Ole Miss career in last Saturday's victory over the Missouri Tigers. Chambliss has thrown for 1,676 passing yards on the season and has totaled 14 touchdowns through 6 games.
- Kewan Lacy - The junior running back had his best game of the season this past Saturday versus the Tigers, rushing for 122 yards on 16 carries. Lacy has battled injury throughout the season but looks the healthiest he has been all season.
- Sharif Denson - Denson led the Rebels with nine tackles in last week's matchup with the Tigers, 6 of which were solo. The senior safety ranks fourth on the team with 30 total tackles on the season.
- Arch Manning - The junior quarterback has experienced a season of ups and downs through 6 games so far. Although the Longhorns have seen flashes of the potential Manning can provide to a Texas offense with elite talent. Manning has thrown for 1,295 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air.
- Cam Coleman - The Auburn transfer leads the Texas offense with six touchdowns on the season. The wide receiver is a tough matchup for any defense to handle.
- Rasheem Biles- The Pitt transfer leads the Longhorns defense with 48 tackles on the season. Biles looks to fill the vocal role for the Texas defense with Colin Simmons possibly listed as out with a high ankle sprain this week.
