Scouting the Tigers
Missouri is led by seventh year Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz, and enters Saturday's matchup with a record of 5-1 on the season, with their only loss coming on on the road at Mississippi State. The Tigers began their season with victories over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and their rival the Kansas Jayhawks. They rounded out their non-conference schedule with a victory over Troy and then dropped their first game of the season to Mississippi State on the road. They followed up the loss with a dominating win versus the Florida Gators at home before defeating Texas A&M last Saturday. Missouri comes into this week's matchup averaging 35.8 points per game on offense, while giving up an average of 17.7 points per game defensively. Defensively, the Tigers rank eighth nationally in rushing defense giving up an average of 78.3 rushing yards per game. Offensively, the Tigers have surpassed 1,000 yards rushing and receiving this year, scoring 14 times through the air and 11 times on the ground
Three Players to Watch: Ole Miss Rebels
- Trinidad Chambliss - Chambliss threw for three passing touchdowns for the fourth time in his Ole Miss career in last Saturday's victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. The fifth year has thrown for 1,435 passing yards on the season and has totaled 11 touchdowns through five games.
- Caleb Odom - The Missouri defense focuses heavily on stopping the run in the early downs and tends to dial up blitz packages on third and long. This creates an opportunity for the Rebels to exploit chunk yardage plays over the middle of the field to guys like Odom. The junior tight end ranks tied for second on the team with 17 receptions on the year.
- Kam Franklin - Franklin is one of the leaders on the Rebels defensive line and looks to rally the defense against a talented Missouri Tigers rushing attack. The junior leads the Rebels defensive line with 14 tackles on the season.
- Austin Simmons - The former Rebel leads the Tigers offensive attack. Simmons has thrown for 1,434 passing yards through five games and has thrown for 14 touchdowns. In the Tigers game versus Florida, the senior quarterback threw for a season high 340 yards.
- Jamal Rogers - The Rebels defense ranks 111th in all of the FBS, giving up an average of 176.4 rushing yards per game, although they are coming off of a season low game against the Commodores last week surrendering 103 rushing yards. Rogers ranks second in all of the FBS and leads the SEC with 828 rushing yards on the season. The senior is coming off of back to back career rushing yard games, accumulating over 200 yards in both games and accumulating five touchdowns over the past two weeks.
- Nicholas Rodriguez - The junior linebacker ranks first in all of the FBS with 63 total tackles on the season, 23 of them being solo. In last week's games against the Texas A&M Aggies, Rodriguez tied his season high with 13 total tackles.
