Football vs. Vanderbilt: Fresh Off The Field
10/11/2026 | Football
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 9 Ole Miss returned to the win column in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Vanderbilt 52-17 at FirstBank Stadium. The Rebels improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in SEC play after an explosive offensive performance and a strong defensive effort that forced four turnovers. Ole Miss built a 42-3 halftime lead, scoring 28 points in the second quarter alone.
Ole Miss continued its success in the red zone, converting all four attempts Saturday to improve to 20-for-20 on the season. The Rebels entered Saturday's matchup among 11 FBS programs with a 100 percent red-zone scoring rate and showcased their offensive depth, with seven different players finding the end zone in the victory.
Hear what Pete Golding, Jamarious Brown, Suntarine Perkins and Trinidad Chambliss had to say following the win.
"I thought it was good to get back out there," Golding said. "You know, obviously, it's been two weeks since we had an opportunity to play, and I think our guys, over the last two weeks, have been working extremely hard and put a lot of energy and effort into a lot of things. We had to put a lot of things on tape that we had to correct and clean up. I thought it wasn't perfect. I told them coming into it it's not going to be perfect. It doesn't need to be perfect, but I thought there was an emphasis on the effort. I thought there was an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball for leveraging the football, being a little more violent on contact. Wasn't perfect. Still had some missed tackles, still had some lost leverages, but that's week in and week out. But to come on the road versus a good football team that takes everybody down to the wire, that is really well coached. A lot of respect for Clark and how his group plays."
BEYOND DEFENSE
The Rebel defense forced a season-high four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. It marked the program's first time recording multiple interceptions and multiple fumble recoveries against an SEC opponent since 2017.
"Seeing my brothers do good is always like one of the most exciting feelings for me because we bled, sweat and tears throughout the summer," Brown said. "So, when I see them do good, it just brings me joy."
Defensive lineman Jamarious Brown also made an impact on the offensive side of the ball, finding the end zone for a touchdown in the victory.
"I wasn't really asking them to run it, but they just told me whenever my time comes, just be ready, and I was ready."
GAME CHANGER
Linebacker Suntarine Perkins recorded his 20th career sack in the first quarter, moving into fifth place in school history in career sacks.
"PG has been on us all week for the last two weeks. We just came here and came in together, and we knew what we were capable of and what we were getting into. For us to just come out here and get the job done, I am really proud of that, proud of this team," Perkins said.
Perkins also recorded the first touchdown of his career on a fumble recovery, marking the fifth fumble recovery of his career.
"It just brought back memories of me in high school," Perkins said. "During that moment, I picked the ball up, and it brought me back into high school ball, running the football, which was an awesome experience right there."
OFFENSIVE LEADER
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 20 of 30 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score, marking his third career game at Ole Miss with four total touchdowns.
"I would say I did solid for the first half," Chambliss said. "Second half came and I wasn't on top of my game. But I have to finish off and play all four quarters. It doesn't matter if we're up 42-10 at half, still play the whole four quarters and finish out the game. There are a lot of room for improvement for me."
Chambliss has now recorded a passing touchdown in 18 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in school history behind Matt Corral's 19-game streak and Chad Kelly's 22-game streak.
"It was great, it's complimentary football," Chambliss said. "The defense showed up, they played great. Offensively, I feel like we played good in the first half. I feel like we were just sluggish in the second and just kind of in a low. We got to fix that because that's not the standard. We got to finish the whole game, playing all four quarters. But it was good that our offense and defense showed up and we had an all-around game today."
