No. 9 Football Cruises Past Vanderbilt On The Road, 52-17

10/10/2026 | Football

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 9 Ole Miss (4-1, 2-1 SEC) football team faced their second road test of the season, besting Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3 SEC) 52-17 on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium.

Trinidad Chambliss tallied four total touchdowns and the Rebel defense forced four turnovers as Ole Miss recorded their fourth win of the season.

Offensive Leaders
Trinidad Chambliss finished the day 20-of-30 through the air for 213 yards and three touchdowns. Makhi Frazier led the Rebels on the ground with 73 yards on 13 carries, while Deuce Alexander paced Ole Miss in receiving with five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. Shekai Mills-Knight added a rushing touchdown.

Defensive Leaders
Sharif Denson and Luke Ferrelli led the Ole Miss defense with seven tackles apiece. Blake Purchase recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss while forcing a fumble. Antonio Kite and Nick Cull each added an interception, while Suntarine Perkins recovered a fumble and returned it five yards for a touchdown.

First Quarter
On their second offensive drive of the game, Ole Miss marched down the field from their own 25 yard line, using three-straight plays of over 10 yards to move into the red zone. Chambliss would call his own number and punch it in to put the Rebels on the board, 7-0.

While Vanderbilt would respond with a field goal, the Rebels flew down on their next drive, as Lacy took it up the middle from two yards out for a touchdown. The Ole Miss defense would force a punt to get the ball back in the final seconds of the first quarter.

Second Quarter
Beginning from midfield at their own 42, the offense looked to stretch their lead sitting on the Vanderbilt two yard line. Lining up in the backfield, defensive lineman Jamarious Brown ran out into the right flat on the snap. Chambliss tossed the ball up as Brown made an athletic catch to make it a 21-3 game.

On the ensuing Commodore possession, the defense forced a third-and-six with the home team looking to convert through the air before Kite recorded his first interception in an Ole Miss uniform.

Moments later, Alexander turned a slick crossing route over the middle into a touchdown, using his speed to get down the field before showing off his strength by forcing his way across the goal line through a defender.

Late in the first half, Purchase got to the quarterback and forced a fumble which would be recovered by Perkins and returned for a touchdown from five yards out. That marked the first career touchdown for Perkins and his fifth fumble recovery in his career.

Ole Miss would waste no time getting the ball back, forcing another fumble on special teams and taking over inside the Vanderbilt ten yard line. Two plays later, Chambliss found tight end Michael Smith in the endzone for a four-yard touchdown pass, his first career touchdown in an Ole Miss uniform.

The Rebels would score on five of their first seven drives in the first half and take a 42-3 lead heading into the break.

Third Quarter
Vanderbilt began the second half with a 25 yard pass play to move the ball into Ole Miss territory. On third down at the Rebels' 13, the Commodore's found the endzone through the air to tally their first touchdown of the afternoon and make the score 42-10 halfway through the third quarter.

Ole Miss began their first drive of the second half at their own 25. A strike from Chambliss to Traylon Ray over the middle for 15 yards got their drive going. Back-to-back eight yard runs from Frazier moved the ball to the other side of the 50 for the Rebels. Vanderbilt would force an interception on a tipped pass to end the Rebels drive.

Vanderbilt took over at their own 36, but Ole Miss forced a three-and-out to give the ball back to the Rebels offense.

Following a first down to start a home team drive, the Rebels defense forced yet another turnover, as Nick Cull recorded his second interception of the season. The third quarter came to an end with the Rebels on top 42-10.

Fourth Quarter
Deuce Knight took over for Chambliss at quarterback to start the fourth quarter. Capitalizing on the turnover, Lucas Carneiro sent a 42-yard field goal through the uprights to extend the Ole Miss lead and make the score 45-10.

On the next Commodore possession, the Ole Miss defense continued its success and stopped Vanderbilt on fourth down, giving Ole Miss the ball with under nine minutes left to play.

Ole Miss wasted no time with Shekai Mills-Knight rushing for a 35-yard touchdown right up the middle to add to the Rebels lead.

Vanderbilt would score a touchdown from one yard out with a minute remaining as Ole Miss would go on to win 52-17.
