No. 19 Softball Stifles Missouri in Doubleheader Sweep

3/30/2025 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 19 Ole Miss softball program earned a pair of key victories in conference play, sweeping Missouri on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (28-6, 5-3 SEC) opened the day with a 1-0 win over the Tigers (18-18, 1-7 SEC) before taking game two, 5-3 to close out the afternoon.

GAME ONE | No. 19 Ole Miss 1, Missouri 0
Sunday's opener proved to be a classic pitcher's duel, as Miali Guachino took the circle opposite Missouri's Marissa McCann. Both pitchers found success from the beginning, going through a hitless first inning, before McCann stifled a potential Rebel opportunity in the second inning that stranded Lexie Brady and Jaden Pone on the bases.

However, the Rebels struck for a run in the third inning. Despite hitting into two quick outs, Lair Beautae doubled, then was driven home by Aliyah Binford on a hot shot past the backhand of the Tigers shortstop for a 1-0 lead.

That run proved to be critical, as Guachino took over from there. The freshman picked up a pair of strikeouts in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth for another 1-2-3 inning. McCann was equally impressive, holding the Rebels at bay in the fifth by stranding Taylor Malvin at third base.

The pressure continued to turn up in the sixth inning, as Missouri got a baserunner on a walk, but Guachino stifled them. The Rebels attempted to add to their advantage in the bottom half of the frame, as Brady singled and advanced to second before Mackenzie Pickens walked. A Pone sacrifice moved the runners into scoring position, but the Tigers escaped unscathed.

Needing three more outs, Guachino recorded her ninth strikeout, allowing just two hits over a complete game shutout. With her nine strikeouts, Guachino moved into the single season top-10 at Ole Miss, taking sole possession of eighth with 143 strikeouts this season.

GAME TWO | No. 19 Ole Miss 5, Missouri 3
Game two proved to be a more explosive offensive affair, as the Rebels and Tigers found their home run stroke. After Missouri's Taylor Ebbs launched a solo home run in the top of the second inning, Brady immediately answered in the bottom half of the inning with her own laser to center field to tie the game at 1-1.

After starting pitcher Binford got through a scoreless third, the Rebels jumped ahead with another solo home run, this time by Pickens to take a 2-1 lead. Both Binford and Missouri starter Cierra Harrison delivered scoreless fourths, but the Tigers added the game's fourth solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

With both teams knotted at 2-2, Persy Llamas stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and delivered a clutch at-bat. The freshman led off the frame with yet another solo home run to put the Rebels ahead 3-2.

Brady was promptly hit by a pitch on the next at-bat, before Taylor Roman joined in on the action, securing a key RBI double to create some breathing room and make it 4-2. For good measure, Jamie Mackay came off the bench to drive in another run with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2.

Binford took over from there and while the Tigers added a solo home run with two outs in the ninth, Binford calmly closed out the final batter to polish off a complete game in which she struck out four.

Ole Miss is back in action on Monday, completing the three-game series against Missouri, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
