Golding Named Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – Following a thrilling 32-24 victory over No. 7 LSU in one of the premiere games of the weekend this past Saturday, Ole Miss football head coach Pete Golding was named the Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week, announced on Monday.
With ESPN's College Gameday in the Grove to begin the day, the nation's eyes were focused on Oxford, Mississippi this past Saturday evening as a top 10 SEC matchup kicked off in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The Rebels took the first lead of the game with a field goal by Lucas Carneiro before Kewan Lacy muscled his way into the endzone to put No. 8 Ole Miss up 10-0 on the Tigers near the end of the first quarter.
Trinidad Chambliss would score one of his three total touchdowns midway through the second quarter, finding Traylon Ray for a 21-yard score to go up 17-0. While the visitors got on the board with just under two minutes left before halftime, the Rebels orchestrated a drive that ended in a Deuce Alexander touchdown from Chambliss, setting the halftime score at 24-7 in favor of the home team.
LSU made it a 10-point game with a score on their second drive of the third quarter, before pulling within three on the ensuing possession, making it a 24-21 Ole Miss lead.
Early in the fourth quarter, the visitors would drive down the field before the Ole Miss defense forced a field goal attempt from LSU to draw the game even at 24-24. Beginning on their own 25-yard line on the next possession, the Rebels drove the field before Chambliss flew down the left side of the field for a 14-yard rushing touchdown. A two-point conversion by Ole Miss made it 32-24 and gave LSU the ball with just over six minutes to play.
While the Tigers would eventually find themselves in the red zone with just under two minutes left, the Ole Miss defense held strong. On a fourth-and-goal play, Kam Franklin tipped a pass that found the hands of Jaylon Braxton in the endzone, sending a Vaught-Heminway Stadium record crowd of 70,033 into a frenzy.
Golding has begun his first full season at the helm of the Ole Miss program 3-0, with victories over No. 24 Louisville, Charlotte, and now No. 7 LSU. Recently elevated to No. 4 in the AP Poll, the Rebels will head south to take on No. 21 Florida in Gainesville next on Saturday, September 26 at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
