OXFORD, Miss. – No.8 Ole Miss comes up big under the lights Saturday night, taking down No.7 LSU, 32-24, in front of a record crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. This victory extends the Rebels' home winning streak to 14 games and moves Ole Miss to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play.
In the first top-10 matchup between the Rebels and Tigers since 1962, Ole Miss jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead before LSU battled back to tie the game in the fourth quarter. The Rebels responded when it mattered most, putting together a 13-play scoring drive before the defense sealed the victory with less than one minute remaining when Jaylen Braxton recorded an interception on a tipped ball by Kam Franklin to preserve the win.
Head Coach Pete Golding has now faced a ranked opponent in five of his first six career games as head coach at Ole Miss with a 5-1 record. Golding is now 2-1 against top-10 opponents, with each of those wins coming against SEC opponents.

"What an awesome weekend, the environment in Oxford." Golding said. "The community did an unbelievable job with so many things going on: the concert Thursday night and GameDay. I'm proud of this building. To Keith [Carter] and to Glenn [Boyce], they allowed us to keep our focus on what was important. Our staff and coaches did an outstanding job. More importantly, our players really stayed focused and worked their butts off. They handled it the right way and did it with class. That's what I just told them, when you work your butt off, and you're talented, and keep the good Lord first, good things happen to you. It took all of us tonight. A lot of guys stepped up and played really well. I'm really proud of them."
DEFENSE SETS THE TONE
Will Echoles helped lead the defensive effort throughout the night, finishing with three tackles for loss and a sack. Sharif Denson and Tah'j Butler each recorded eight tackles as Ole Miss held LSU to just 330 total yards.
"It's a breath of fresh air, honestly, just to get it over with." Echoles said. "I'd say how we did it, is the biggest thing for me. We came out swinging. As PG [Pete Golding] said with the media the whole week, just playing all four quarters of the game and playing hard."
The Ole Miss defense held the LSU offense to just two first downs and 34 total yards in the first quarter.
"Yeah, I'd say that. Pete [Golding] is what he is, 5-1 in his first six head coaching games. Pretty good start," Echoles said. "So super proud of him. He understands the team, how he holds himself around the program. You know, he keeps us ready for any situation that's in front of us. So super thankful for him and that he got the head coaching job, and I'm all in."
RAY TIME
Wide Receiver Traylon Ray led the Rebels in receiving with 115 yards on seven catches along with a touchdown.
"It's similar systems, but for the most part JDB [John David Baker], if you're hot, he's gonna let you be hot." Ray said. "In the game, you know, if you're eating, he'll let you continue to eat. It's just the trust he has in the guys. He knows what he's seen us do in practice, competing and things like that, so he has a lot of trust in us."
Ray surpassed 100 receiving yards before halftime, recording the first 100-yard receiving performance of his career. He was one of five Rebels to finish with at least three receptions against the tiger defense.
"I wanted to be under a coach who believed in me." Ray said. "Coach PG [Pete Golding] believed in me, so he gave me an opportunity to come back and compete for a spot to showcase my talent when I'm not injured, and I did that. I found myself on the field. I found myself connecting with Trin [Trinidad Chambliss] and making some plays."
CHAMBLISS DELIVERS AGAIN
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss finished 33-for-48 through the air for 363 yards and two touchdowns, recording his 10th career 300-yard passing performance at Ole Miss.
"Yeah, I try and stay calm throughout the whole game, regardless of the situation." Chambliss said. "I was taught that growing up playing the sport, just staying even keeled. I can't get too high or get too low. In that situation, I knew that I just had to execute, put points on the board, do what you've prepared to do, and that's what we did."
A passing touchdown from Chambliss in the second quarter was his 16th consecutive game with a passing touchdown, tying Eli Manning for the third-longest streak all-time at Ole Miss.
"Yeah, this one meant a lot more than the other games. I mean, the coaches that were here are now at LSU, some players as well." Chambliss said. "So a little bit more to it. So yeah, I'm really happy we got the win. I wanted this one really bad, and our team did too. So, just proud of them and so happy we got the win."
