Lansdell’s Home Run Not Enough as No. 17 Softball Falls at No. 23 Georgia
4/18/2025 | Softball
ATHENS, Ga. – A game-tying three run home run from Ashton Lansdell was not enough, as the No. 17 Ole Miss softball program fell, 6-4 to No. 23 Georgia on Friday night at Jack Turner Stadium.
Lansdell delivered for the Rebels (32-12, 8-9 SEC), tallying her third straight game with a home run to lead the offense. Angelina DeLeon also had a two-hit day against the Bulldogs (28-16, 6-13 SEC).
After Thursday's wild, offensive frenzy, the two sides had a more subdued start, as both starting pitchers delivered scoreless first innings. From there, the Bulldogs found themselves with an early advantage on a three-run home run in the second inning.
The Rebels delivered some well executed small-ball in the top of the third inning, as DeLeon singled and moved to second on a Taylor Malvin sacrifice bunt. After a fly out from Jaden Pone moved DeLeon to third, she pounced on a wild pitch and scored, cutting the lead to 3-1.
However, a solo home run by the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third quickly reestablished the three-run lead. The Rebel offense would not go away though, and answered in the fourth inning.
Lexie Brady led off the inning with a single, and while she was unlucky to be tagged out at second on a dropped fly ball that led to a fielder's choice, that didn't end the inning. A Lair Beautae hit-by-pitch put two runners on for Lansdell, who worked the count full, before blasting another home run, this time to right center field to tie the game at 4-4.
However, the Bulldogs were able to manufacture the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, thanks to a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to lead 5-4. Another run would come home for Georgia later in the inning, making it 6-4.
The Rebels had their best chance at a comeback in the fifth inning, as Aliyah Binford and Brady drew hit-by-pitches with one out. However, a well hit ball by Mackenzie Pickens was snared in right center field and the Rebels were doubled up at first base to end the inning.
Despite a strong 1.2 innings of relief from Brianna Lopez, the Rebel offense was stifled for the remaining two innings and the Bulldogs emerged with a win.
Ole Miss and Georgia head back out for a decisive game three on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be televised via the SEC Network.
