No. 17 Softball Takes Series at No. 23 Georgia, Wins 5-3

4/19/2025 | Softball

ATHENS, Ga. Ashton Lansdell hit a home run for the fourth-consecutive game and Brianna Lopez spun a complete game gem, as No. 17 Ole Miss softball downed No. 23 Georgia, 5-3 to secure the series on Saturday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium.

Lopez led the way in the circle, striking out five and allowing just five hits and no earned runs for the Rebels (33-12, 9-9 SEC). Lansdell's solo home run helped lead the offense, while Persy Llamas added two RBI against the Bulldogs (28-17, 6-14 SEC).

After multiple hits against Georgia's starter Randi Roelling in game one, Taylor Malvin continued to see her well, leading off the game with a single to jump start the offense. A Jaden Pone walk moved her into scoring position and Llamas made no mistake shortly thereafter, jumping on Roelling to deliver an RBI single and take a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Lansdell continued her scorching run of form, blasting a solo home run down the left field line to increase the lead to 2-0. Lansdell becomes the first Rebel with home runs in four consecutive games since Aynslie Furbush against Auburn and Arkansas in 2024.

Lopez continued to cruise, navigating a third scoreless frame with a punch out to end the inning. The Rebels nearly added more to their advantage in the top of the fourth inning, as a Mackenzie Pickens single, Lansdell reaching on an error and a Jamie Mackay walk loaded the bases. However, the Rebels ultimately flew out into a double play at the plate trying to score.

Lopez nearly navigated the fourth unscathed, getting two outs after a leadoff double and walk, but a defensive mistake allowed both to come home and tied the game at 2-2.

However, her offense was quick to pick her up, as Pone led off the fifth inning with a single, before Llamas drove her home on an RBI double to left center field to take a 3-2 lead.

The inning only continued from there, as Lexie Brady walked and was lifted for Taylor Strain, while Llamas was lifted for Star Ferguson. The speedy duo immediately put pressure on Georgia, executing a double steal to set up Lair Beautae. Beautae put the ball in play, but a miscue at second base allowed both runners to come home and give Ole Miss a 5-2 lead.

The Bulldogs got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, after another Rebel error allowed the run to score. However, Lopez never lost her cool, calmly getting the remaining six outs, allowing just one baserunner and adding her fifth strikeout of the day in the seventh inning to secure her 10th win of the season.

Ole Miss returns home to welcome No. 2 Tennessee for a three-game series to conclude the regular season home slate. Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT.
