Women’s Golf Beats MSU, Falls to South Carolina in Semifinals at SEC Championship
4/17/2025 | Women's Golf
BELLEAIR, Fla. – The No. 18 Ole Miss women's golf team picked up a 3.5-1.5 quarterfinal match play win over Mississippi State before bowing out in the semifinals, 4.5-0.5, to South Carolina on Thursday at the SEC Championship.
It was just the second time in program history that the Rebels advanced to the semifinal round of the SEC Championship since the tournament went to a match play format in 2018. Ole Miss won the 2019 SEC Championship in 2019 with upset match play wins over Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Ole Miss will wait to learn their postseason fate with the NCAA Selection Show, which is set to be televised on Golf Channel, April 23, at noon CT. It is there that the team will learn what NCAA Regional they will be traveling to May 5-7.
QUARTERFINALS VS. MISSISSIPPI STATE
The Rebels were able to hit some key shots late to rally and help Ole Miss defeat Mississippi State, 3.5-1.5, in the quarterfinals at Pelican Golf Club.
Caitlyn Macnab got the Rebels on the board first with a 3&2 win over Samantha Whateley. Macnab, the 2025 SEC individual champion, never trailed in her match. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native won No. 14 and then extended her lead with victories on No. 2 and 4 to seal the win.
With the overall match tied 1-1, freshman Kajsalotta Svarvar continued her torrid pace in match play with a 1-up victory against MSU's Ana Pina Ortega. The win was Svarvar's fourth straight match play victory to begin her collegiate career dating back to last month's Old Barnwell Derby Match Play competition.
Sophie Linder was the deciding match for the Rebels, as the sophomore from Carthage, Tennessee, earned a victory in 19 holes to move Ole Miss onto the semifinals of the SEC Championship. One-down headed into the last hole, Linder was able to make par at No. 9 to force extra holes. Linder used the new-found momentum to make par at No. 10 on the 420-yard, par-4 hole, to end the match.
Facing a 2-down deficit for most of the match, junior Nicole Gal, also rallied in her match to tie it going into the final hole. Gal's match was tied when the quarterfinals were called. Larissa Carrillo was the other Rebel in action, falling 5&4 to Mississippi State's Chiara Horder.

Needing a quick rally, redshirt freshman Filippa Sundquist was up to the challenge. Facing a 2-down deficit after 14 holes, Sundquist won three straight holes to turn the tide and take a 1-up lead headed into the 18th and final hole. South Carolina's Sophia Burnett was able to win No. 18 and force extra holes. Both players made par on the first two extra holes, but Burnett was able to seal the win in 21 holes after a par at No. 12.
