No. 17 Softball Falls in Game Two to No. 6 Florida

4/12/2025 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 17 Ole Miss softball program dropped the second game of the series to No. 6 Florida, 14-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

Jaden Pone led the way with her fifth-career four-hit game for the Rebels (30-11, 6-8 SEC), while Taylor Malvin added two hits. The Gators (37-8, 9-5 SEC) scored eight runs in the seventh inning to pull away for the win.

For the second straight day, the Rebels were the first to score, as Malvin and Pone singled to set up Brady. Brady grounded into a fielder's choice, but the throw from the Gators shortstop got away, allowing two runs to score and build an early 2-0 lead.

However, a pair of home runs by the Gators turned the top of the second inning into five runs for a 5-2 lead. Ole Miss starter Aliyah Binford was able to settle things down with a scoreless third inning, but the Gators did get an additional run in the fourth.

Binford managed to keep the Gators off the scoreboard from there, giving her offense a chance. Malvin and Pone both singled again in the fifth inning and advanced into scoring position, but were stranded on the bases.

In the sixth inning, Binford took matters into her own hands with a leadoff double. A single by Jamie Mackay put runners on the corners with one out for the freshman Rachel Connors in her first collegiate start. Connors hung in on a 2-2 count and delivered a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3. A pinch hit single for Addison Duke extended the inning, but the Rebels could get no closer.

While the Rebels got the opening out of the seventh inning, the Gators offense clicked, scoring eight runs in the frame to ultimately put the game away.

Ole Miss will wrap up the three-game series against Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
