Llamas Launches Two Home Runs, Softball Rolls Past South Alabama
3/2/2025 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – Behind a two-home run day from Persy Llamas, the Ole Miss softball program rolled to another run rule victory, downing South Alabama, 12-4 in six innings on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
Llamas led the Rebels (18-3, 0-0 SEC) with two home runs and four RBI, while Lair Beautae added three RBI and Angelina De Leon added a two-run blast. Miali Guachino and Brianna Lopez combined to strikeout eight Jaguars (11-9, 0-0 Sun Belt) over six frames.
With the win, the Rebels now hold a 13-game winning streak, good for the longest by the program since the school record of 16 straight victories back in 2017.
In what became a prolific offensive showing, the Rebels faced early adversity, as the Jaguars turned a pair of errors behind Guachino into a first inning run. However, back-to-back walks and a wild pitch from the Jaguars starter in the bottom half of the first set up Llamas, who battled to a full count, before crushing a ball to straightaway centerfield for a 3-1 lead.
The run support came in bunches for the Rebels, who got a runner on with one out in the third inning, before back-to-back RBI doubles from Mackenzie Pickens and Beautae made it 5-1. DeLeon was next up and clobbered a pitch that rang off the left field foul pole for a 7-1 advantage.
The Jaguars mounted a response in the fourth inning, thanks to a leadoff home run and a two RBI double, making it 7-4. Lopez would come into the game and immediately shut the door on the rally attempt, getting three outs including one strikeout.
Llamas would lead off the bottom half of the inning and quickly roped another home run, this time to left field for an 8-4 advantage. While the Rebels couldn’t add more in the fourth, they added on once again in the fifth inning, as they loaded the bases on an error and two walks. Mackenzie Pickens drove in run on a groundout, but Beautae broke the game open with an RBI triple down the left field line, making it 11-4.
Lopez finished off a third consecutive scoreless frame in the sixth inning, reaching five strikeouts on the day and the Rebels quickly prevented the need for an extra inning, as an Aliyah Binford sacrifice fly would secure the run rule win.
Ole Miss returns to action on Friday to open SEC play with a three-game series against No. 11 Arkansas. The Rebels face the Razorbacks in the opener at 6 p.m., with the game to be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
