Eight-Run Fourth Inning Powers Softball to Win Over Central Arkansas
2/15/2025 | Softball
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ole Miss softball program rode an offensive explosion en route to an 11-0 win over Central Arkansas in five innings on Saturday at Lamson Park.
The Rebels (6-3, 0-0 SEC) recorded 11 hits by seven different players and were led by a 3-for-3 day from Aliyah Binford. Freshman Miali Guachino threw four innings in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out five Bears (2-6, 0-0 ASUN) for her third win of 2025.
The Rebels quickly established themselves against Central Arkansas in the opening inning, as Binford singled and Lexie Brady drew a hit-by-pitch to set up Mackenzie Pickens. Pickens put a ball into play and the resulting throw to the first baseman sailed, allowing Binford to come all the way home to take a 1-0 lead.
Guachino took the circle for the Rebels and was in complete command, recording three strikeouts through the first three frames. Her offense would give her some breathing room in the bottom half of the third, as Binford and Brady proved to be the catalyst to set up Pickens. Pickens delivered an RBI single and was quickly followed up by Taylor Roman, who nearly left the yard on a long sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
However, the bulk of the offense would take place in the fourth inning. The Rebels quickly loaded the bases with no outs to set up the team's RBI leader, Persy Llamas. Llamas kept the line moving with an RBI single to make it 4-0 and sprung the offense into full gear. Binford was next up and delivered an RBI single, followed by a two RBI single from Brady to make it 7-0.
Pickens would add another RBI single, before Roman laced an RBI double on the same field she played at during her undergraduate career, making it 9-0. Both runners would eventually come around later in frame on a wild pitch and groundout.
Needing just one more inning of solid pitching, the Rebels turned to Alison Cooper, who was lights out in her relief appearance. Cooper picked up a strikeout and finished the game, 11-0.
Ole Miss is back in action tomorrow with a pair of games, as the Rebels face Northern Illinois at 9 a.m., CT and Louisiana at 2 p.m. CT. The rematch with Louisiana will be streamed on ESPN Plus.
