Baseball Drops Saturday Night Matchup Against No. 19 Texas
2/15/2025 | Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texas – Ole Miss Baseball was shut out in their second game of the weekend Saturday night, falling to No. 19 Texas 10-0.
The Rebels collected just two hits on the night, a double from Judd Utermark and a single by Ryan Moerman. Utermark finished the night 1-for-2 with the double, a walk, and a stellar defensive play at third base.
Walker Hooks made his collegiate debut out of the bullpen working 2.2 innings, retiring each batter he faced and striking out four.
Things started well for the Rebels as Riley Maddox worked three scoreless innings with six strikeouts before running into trouble in the fourth.
The Longhorns scored seven runs on six hits and three walks in what was a disaster inning for Ole Miss. Hooks came in with one out and the bases loaded, striking out the first two batters he faced to get out of the inning.
The freshman would retire the next six batters he faced, limiting the damage for the moment.
Texas put up three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walkoff, ten-run rule win.
Ole Miss will wrap up play in the Shriners Children's College Showdown tomorrow afternoon against No. 15 Clemson.
Ole Miss will face another ranked team tomorrow night as they play No. 19 Texas in their second game of the Shriners Children's College Showdown.
