Women’s Tennis Advances to Saturday Play with Victory Over Utah

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team continued its undefeated start to the season after a thrilling 4-3 win against Utah on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Rebels (4-0, 0-0 SEC) remained unbeaten against the Utes (2-1, 0-0 Big 12), and now hold a 3-0 series advantage.
Andrea Nova clinched the match for the Rebels after a comeback attempt by the Utes. The Prague, Czechia, native earned her third dual singles victory of the season after a three-set showdown with Hayley Roberts. Nova's point on court six put the Rebels one step closer toward advancing to the ITA Indoor Championships.
The Rebels started with a bang, and secured the doubles point early. Undefeated on court one, Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová grabbed their win against Sara Akid and Emma Valletta, 6-3. The duo is 4-0 to start the dual season.
To follow along the trend, Lucie Petruzelova and Nova stole their first dual doubles win of the season, also with a score of 6-3. For Petruzelova, the win marks her first dual victory in doubles as a Rebel, as well as the 60th of her overall career.
Duo Rachel Krzyzak and Brooklyn Olson were tied with their opponents, 5-5, on court two before the Rebels clinched the doubles point.
Kareisová brought in another point for Ole Miss, after a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory in the second slot. The senior out of Liberec, Czechia, is 4-0 to begin dual action, with all of her wins coming in straight sets. She's the only Rebel to have won all four of both her singles and doubles matches this season.
In true Krzyzak fashion, the senior also racked a straight set win under her belt on court five, with a final of 6-2, 6-3.
Despite a tough fight and a 3-0 lead, Utah claimed the next three points to tie the match. Nova and Roberts found themselves on the deciding court after the match was tied, opening the door for Nova to play the hero.
After a narrow 7-6 defeat in the first set, the sophomore redeemed herself in the second to force a third set. Nova then made the resurgence complete with 6-1 third set victory, to not only win her court but to secure the team win, while slamming the door shut on Utah's hopes of a comeback.
Up next, Ole Miss faces either No. 3 Stanford or Memphis on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a chance to advance to the ITA Indoor Championships. Doubles action is set to begin at 3 p.m.
