Women’s Tennis Drops Match Against Stanford
1/25/2025 | Women's Tennis
PALO ALTO, Calif. – Despite maintaining close singles matches, Ole Miss women's tennis fell short against No.3 Stanford, 4-2, on Saturday in Palo Alto.
The Rebels (4-1, 0-0 SEC) opened the match by securing the doubles point for the fifth time this season. Ole Miss has yet to open singles competition at a disadvantage this year, having won the doubles point in each match thus far.
Lucie Petruzelova and Andrea Nova remained unbeaten as a duo by keeping the lead from the start. The pair finished strong with a 6-4 score over Caroline Driscoll and Katherine Hui.
After Stanford claimed a victory on court two, doubles duo Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová dug deep to keep the Rebels within range of victory. The team captains proceeded to handle business on court one. After Stanford threatened, the Rebels came out on top, 6-4. Leclercq-Ficher and Kareisová are 5-0 in dual doubles matches to start the year and notched their first ranked victory of the season against No. 31 Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma.
Junior Emma Kette secured a singles point for the Rebels, after a tough battle. The Rammelsbach, Germany, native reigned victorious over Chidimma Okpara 6-4, 7-5.
Despite courts one through three falling short, the Rebels still had a dog in the fight. The back half of the line-up had something to prove, with Rachel Krzyzak and Nova both forcing a third set. Nova fell just short of a comeback as Stanford claimed the court, fashioning the final score of 4-2.
Krzyzak's match was left unfinished in her set on court 5, with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 2-3 against Valencia Xu.
Up next, the Rebels will continue their road test in Tulsa, Okla., in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 1, against Tulsa and Kansas City. Times for these matches will be released at a later date.
