Women’s Tennis to Travel to California for ITA Kickoff Weekend

1/23/2025 | Women's Tennis

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Ole Miss women's tennis is set to travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, beginning with a matchup on Friday, Jan. 24 against Utah.

Should the Rebels (3-0, 0-0 SEC) emerge victorious against the Utes, they would face the winner between No. 3 Stanford and Memphis.

This will be only the third time Ole Miss has faced Utah, with the last dating back to 2020. Ole Miss is 2-0 against Utah, with both wins coming under head coach Mark Beyers. Both matches have come in dominating fashion and concluded without the Utes securing a match point.

After a doubleheader explosion, the Rebels enter the weekend with a 3-0 record. It's the third time in four years that Ole Miss has won its first three dual matches. Freshman Brooklyn Olson is 1-0 in dual singles after an astounding 6-0, 6-0 win against Tennessee State in the home opener. Two doubles pairings remain undefeated, as well as Ludmila Kareisová in dual singles.

FAMILIAR FACES
Ole Miss has five returning players from last year's team. The three-headed monster in seniors Ludmila Kareisová, Rachel Krzyzak and Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher will significantly impact this season. The trio contributed 17 of Ole Miss' singles wins in the fall season. In 2024, Kyzyzak and Emma Kette led the team in singles wins with 18 and 17, respectively.

OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE NET

Utah
The Utes are sitting in the middle lane when it comes to its roster. With only one freshman and one senior, Utah is 2-0 and has yet to give up a single match point. Junior Kalia Barksdale sits at the third slot in both lineups and is 2-0 thus far. She is partnered with Haley Roberts. In the first position of doubles, duo Sara Akid and Emma Valletta have a pair of wins on the court as well. The team has defeated both Utah Tech and Montana State.

Stanford
A more veteran roster, No. 3 Stanford has a total of four ranked singles and three ranked doubles pairings. After a win against UC Davis to start the season, the team sits at a 1-0 record. No. 6 ranked Valerie Glozman serves at the first singles position, as well as doubles alongside Connie Ma. The freshman-senior duo has an ITA ranking of 31.

Memphis
The Tigers' roster includes four incoming freshmen to the mix of returners. Senior, and Memphis native, Miriam Grosmann led the team in doubles wins with redshirt senior Alice Amendola last season in the third position. Memphis lost Camila Soares after a 9-7 singles season, who sat primarily at the first slot. Ole Miss defeated the Tigers in the opener of the 2024-25 spring season, 4-2.

FRESHMAN PHENOM
A Blue Chip five star recruit out of Kansas City, Kansas, Brookly Olson started her collegiate career as a Rebel this season. She was ranked as high as No. 704 in ITF singles, and the No. 26 recruit in the nation. She made her debut in doubles at the ITA Southern Regionals with Lucie Petruzelova, and advanced to the top 16. Olson earned her first dual singles win against Tennessee State with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score. She became the first Rebel freshman to win her dual singles debut without giving up a game since at least the 2014-15 season.

STRONG START
Ludmila Kareisová opened the 2024-25 campaign with six victories in Ole Miss' opening weekend of dual meets. The senior out of Liberec, Czechia, went 3-0 in singles and doubles in the first three matches of the new spring season, the only Rebel to do so. She won each of her singles matches in straight sets on court three, and finished first or second in all three of the weekend matches.

Kareisová and doubles partner Anaélle Leclercq-Ficher allowed just three games against them the entire weekend, which included two consecutive 6-0 victories. As a result of the duos efforts, Ole Miss claimed the doubles point in each of the three matchups of the weekend.

TRANSFER TO THE SIP
The Rebels added Lucie Petruzelova from Charlotte through the transfer portal. Petruzelova spent three seasons at Charlotte and earned a combined 66-25 singles record and 58-42 doubles record. Petruzelova advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating three opponents in straight sets, including Auburn's Alice Battesi 6-4, 6-1. The senior hit a milestone overall career singles wins of 75 in the match against the Memphis Tigers.
