Football’s Alexander and Carneiro Earn SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander (co-winner Offensive Player of the Week) and kicker Lucas Carneiro (co-winner Special Teams Player of the Week) both earned Southeastern Conference weekly awards for their performances against No. 24 Louisville, the SEC announced on Monday.
Alexander put on an electrifying performance in the season opener, finishing with a career-best 159 yards on five catches with two touchdowns. His first 62-yard score on a catch-and-dash up the right sideline marked his second-longest reception of his career, trailing his school-record 88-yarder last season.
Later in the third quarter, the senior from Douglasville, Georgia scored a second time from 62 yards out, catching a deep throw from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss before once again outrunning the defense to the endzone.
Picking up right where he left off a season ago, kicker Lucas Carneiro continued to be one of the key components to the Rebels' success, drilling a 48-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to help Ole Miss defeat the Cardinals 41-38. Adding a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter and going 5-5 on PAT's, the Cornelius, North Carolina native totaled 11 points for the Rebels, giving him 160 in his career and moving him up to the 14th-most in school history.
Carneiro has now hit three career game-winning field goals of 45 yards or more within the final 15 seconds of regulation, the most by any FBS kicker in the last 30 years.
No. 9 Ole Miss (1-0) returns to Oxford for their home opener of the 2026 season, hosting Charlotte (0-1) on Saturday, September 12 at 6:45 p.m. on ESPN2.
