Cross Country Women Take First, Men Second at Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams began their season at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic Saturday night, with the women claiming the team title in the 5K while the men took second in the four-mile.
 
Beginning at 9:20 p.m. CT, the women were first up in the collegiate races, led by Alicia Finnis who claimed third place overall with a time of 17:28.02. Just behind was Adie Luna in fifth place with a time of 17:35.61, while Addy Mitchell and Brooke Preputnick took seventh and eighth, respectively, to put four Rebels in the top 10. Jillian Candelino was the fifth and final scorer for Ole Miss, taking 11th place with a time of 18:03.69 to clinch first place for the Rebels.
 
Zoe Marsh crossed the finish line moments later at 18:06.71 to take 12th, while Madison Archdale claimed 13th with a time of 18:06.86. Shannon Zugelder would take 18th individually with a time of 18:19.62, while Natalie Duggan took 28th at 18:44.46. Reese Reaman would finish just behind Duggan, taking 29th at 18:45.62, setting all Rebels within the top 30 of a field of over 160 runners.
 
Starting at 10 p.m. and the final race of the night, the men's team was led by Zack Gilbertson who took sixth place individually with a time of 19:26.53, while Ky Hehir joined him in the top 10 with a time of 19:31.45 to claim 10th. John Shoemaker claimed 11th as he crossed the line in 19:42.67, while Owen Kelley finished just behind him in 13th at 19:57.10. Luke Hurley closed out the team scoring for the Rebels with a time of 20:04.96 to take 16th.
 
Finishing in 24th place was Aidan Hodge with a time of 20:20.72, while Travis Furmanski finished his four-mile run in 20:27.82 to take 31st. Samuel Ferguson took 34th place with a time of 20:31.36, while Landen McNair took 55th as the clock read 21:00.94.
 
Each team will continue training before their next meet on the schedule, set for Friday, September 25 in Columbia, Missouri at the Gans Creek Classic.
