COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams finished a busy morning at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri on Friday morning.
Beginning the day were the women in the 6K Gold Invitational race at 8 a.m. with a starting line of over 250 runners across nearly 30 collegiate programs. Leading the way for Ole Miss once again was junior Alicia Finnis, taking 26th place overall with a time of 20:18.4. Just behind her was sophomore Addy Mitchell in 37th with a time of 20:29.1, while Adie Luna took 42nd and crossed the finish line in 20:34.8.
Rounding out the top five finishers to score for the Rebels, Brooke Preputnick took 57th with a time of 20:46.3, while Zoe Marsh crossed the line moments later in 21:15.4 to take 101st. With 261 total points, Ole Miss would take eighth place overall among 29 schools.
Jillian Candelino and Maddie Archdale would round out the runners in the invitational for Ole Miss with times of 21:55.8 and 22:14.7, respectively.
The starting gun rang out for the men in the 8K Gold Invitational at 8:45 a.m., as 10 Ole Miss runners lined up within a field of over 250 competitors. Pacing himself just outside the top 10 early in the race, Kidus Misgina made a second-half push to place fourth overall, crossing the line in 22:42.6. Zack Gilbertson would finish in 25th place individually with a time of 23:24.5, while a grouping of three Rebels capped the scorers for the team. In 50th was John Shoemaker at 23:51.5, followed closely by Owen Kelley in 60th at 23:56.6 and Ky Hehir in 67th at 23:59.4. Ole Miss would claim fifth place in a field of 30 collegiate teams.
Samuel Ferguson crossed the line in 24:13.6 to take 93rd place individually, with Travis Furmanski just behind in 101st with a time of 24:17.0. Luke Hurley would clock a time of 24:26.9 in the men's 8K, followed by Aidan Hodge in 24:42.3 and Sean Donoghue in 25:01.3.
The Rebels closed out the day with a trio of women in the 6K Black Open race, with Hannah Doyle placing 19th individually in 22:08.2, while Shannon Zugelder took 25th in 22:15.7 and Dearbhla Allen finished 40th in 22:43.4.
The men are next to compete for the Ole Miss cross country program, as they await the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, October 9. The women will compete the following week, when they travel up to Terre Haute, Indiana to run in the Pre Nationals on Friday, October 16.
