Soccer’s Shackelford Scores Game-Winning Goal to Defeat South Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. – Audrey Shackelford scored her first goal as a Rebel as Ole Miss soccer defeated South Alabama, 1-0, Thursday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
Ole Miss broke through at the 61:22 mark when Keira Mitchell set up Shackelford for the finish, giving the Rebels a 1-0 advantage with her first goal at Ole Miss.
Ole Miss (6-1-0) recorded its fifth shutout through seven matches as South Alabama (1-4-1) couldn't get past Taylor Prigge, who made two saves in goal for the Rebels, earning her fifth victory and fourth individual shutout of the season.
The Rebels controlled the match throughout the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Jaguars 10-0 and earning a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Ava Ghoreishi produced Ole Miss' first two shots on goal, forcing South Alabama goalkeeper Sierra Giorgio to make saves in the 18th and 25th minutes.
The Rebels continued to apply pressure with attempts from Audrey Shackelford, Evie Ewing, Katie Ramsden and Isabella Pontieri but entered halftime tied 0-0.
South Alabama generated its first shot less than four minutes into the second half before placing consecutive attempts on goal. Prigge denied Ava Matherne in the 54th minute and Zamiyah Hill in the 57th to keep the match scoreless.
Shackelford would then eventually find a window to score her game-winning goal not long after. The Jaguars pushed for an equalizer, earning four corner kicks over the next 13 minutes. The Ole Miss defense held firm, blocking two of South Alabama's final three attempts.
Ole Miss finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 3-2 edge in attempts on goal. The Rebels also earned 12 corner kicks compared to South Alabama's four and held 55% of the possession.
Ole Miss returns to action Sunday against Belmont at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
