Soccer Closes Nonconference Play with Shutout Win Over Belmont

OXFORD, Miss. – Ava Ghoreishi scores in the 15th minute to help Ole Miss soccer close nonconference play with a 1-0 victory over Belmont on Sunday afternoon at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
Ole Miss (7-1-0) extended their win streak to three matches and secured its third consecutive shutout and sixth clean sheet through eight matches, limiting Belmont (1-3-3) to two shots and no attempts on goal.
Ole Miss applied pressure from the opening whistle. Evie Ewing placed an attempt on frame just 25 seconds into the match, forcing Belmont goalkeeper Greta Genie to make an early save.
Maizy Kluksdal and Ewing added opportunities over the next 13 minutes before the Rebels broke through at the 14:04 mark. Becca Skinner set up Ghoreishi for the finish, giving Ole Miss a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Ghoreishi's second of the season, while Skinner recorded her first assist as a Rebel.
Ole Miss continued to control the opening half. Sarah Granno had an attempt blocked before Alena Watts sent a shot wide in the 26th minute. Ghoreishi nearly doubled the lead moments later, but her attempt was cleared away by the Bruins defense.
The Rebels entered halftime with a 1-0 advantage after outshooting the Bruins 10-0 and earning all five corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes.
Skinner forced Genie into another save less than a minute into the second half. Belmont would produce its first shot in the 48th minute, but Laken Whittington sent the attempt wide.
The Bruins registered their only other shot in the 67th minute, with Megan Miller also missing the target. The Ole Miss defense prevented Belmont from generating another attempt over the final 23 minutes.
Taylor Prigge played the opening half in goal and earned her sixth victory of the season. Anna Claire Jacobi took over after halftime as the duo combined for its second shared shutout.
Ole Miss finished with a 15-2 advantage in shots and placed four attempts on goal. The Rebels also led 6-2 in corner kicks and held 56% of the possession.
Ole Miss opens SEC play on Friday, Sept. 11, against Mississippi State in the annual Magnolia Cup match at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
