Volleyball Takes Control Late, Powers Past Ohio State

NORMAN, Okla. – The Ole Miss volleyball program earned a victory to open the 2026 Allstate Big Ten/SEC Challenge, downing Ohio State, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon at McCasland Field House.
The Rebels (3-1, 0-0 SEC) were powered by a balanced offensive attack, as Jorda Crook led all scorers with 15 kills and seven digs to help defeat the Buckeyes (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten). Shayla Meyer added 13 kills and three blocks, while Jaidyn Hartsfield tacked on 13 kills and three digs. Cameron Bradley shined again on defense, tallying 21 digs, while adding three service aces. Head coach Bre Henry also earned the 50th victory of her coaching career.
The Rebels got off to a roaring start in the opening set, building a quick 7-3 lead behind a balanced offensive attack. The Buckeyes didn't go away, rallying all the way back to take a 12-11 lead. A sustained Ohio State run of 8-3 appeared to put the Rebels hopes of a first set win in peril, as the Buckeyes took a 22-20 lead. However, the freshman Hartsfield took over, getting three kills over a 5-0 run, as the Rebels stormed back for the opening set win, 25-22.
Despite an early 6-4 lead for the Rebels, the Buckeyes were able to recapture momentum. Ohio State capitalized on several Ole Miss errors, surging from the deficit into a 16-10 lead. After hitting .273 in the first set, the Rebel offense sputtered, slipping to a .069 clip as the Buckeye lead ballooned to 20-11. The Rebels offense finally started to click again late in the set, as Meyer and Crook each got a pair of kills, but the deficit was simply too large, as Ohio State took the set 25-17.
Needing a response, the Rebels quickly regrouped in the third set. Meyer got involved in the early attack, tallying a pair of kills before registering a third to make it 12-11. That kickstarted a lengthy Ole Miss run on Bella Bonanno's serve. Bonanno opened with an ace, before the offense found its swing. Meyer added two more kills and a block alongside Paugh, while Tenesyn Frye jumped in offensively for a kill to help balloon the lead to 19-12. While the Buckeyes responded with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to three, Crook took over with two kills and Bradley punctuated the set with a service ace to win 25-17.
Ole Miss would take control from there, as Bradley opened the fourth the way she finished the third, tallying a service ace to help the Rebels jump out to a 7-3 advantage. Nina Moorer jumped into the action with a pair of key swings, while Bradley delivered yet another service ace to increase the lead to 14-9. The high level serving continued throughout the fourth set, as Bonanno registered back-to-back to aces. From there, the Rebels never looked back, holding off a late push to win the decisive fourth set, 25-22.
The Rebels wrap up the two-day swing in Norman by facing off against Washington in the finale of the Allstate Big Ten/SEC Challenge. Match time is set for 3 p.m. CT, and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
