vs. Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Ole Miss fell to No. 18 Texas, 34-27, on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium after mounting a second-half comeback attempt.

Cornerback Jalyn Crawford recorded his first interception of the season and his first as a Rebel in the opening quarter against Texas, marking the third interception of his collegiate career. Crawford added another interception in the fourth quarter, bringing his season total to two and his career total to four. The Ole Miss defense has now recorded five interceptions over the past three games.

Hear what Pete Golding, Kam Franklin and Trinidad Chambliss had to say.

"Obviously, hats off to Texas, really good football team, really good players, and really well coached," Golding said. "We didn't obviously start the game the way we would like to. We couldn't get anything going and couldn't get in rhythm on offense. Then, from a defensive standpoint, a lot of ups and downs. I had some good series, but we didn't leverage the football on the perimeter. Had some missed tackles and then gave up a couple of explosives in the pass game and I said at halftime, we're down three possessions and they're getting the ball back. I told them we needed some spark plays, so let's play one play at a time, one series at a time, and let's make it a one-possession game in the fourth quarter. I was really proud of the effort and how they came out and fought; they did do that. We counted it up, made it a one-possession game in the fourth quarter and had every opportunity to win the football game. That's a really good football team on the road. That's not easy. I told them there's a lot of good things we're going to take from this, there's a lot of things that we put on tape that you can't do against good football teams, regardless of whether you're on the road or at home. Love this group. I think they're talented and a good football team, but we have to play better for 60 minutes."

DEFENSIVE PRESSURE
Defensive end Kam Franklin recorded his first career fumble recovery and touchdown after recovering a loose ball in the end zone. Franklin continued to make an impact in the third quarter, recording a sack to bring his season total to 2.0.

"I feel like Texas just made a couple more plays than we did," Franklin said. "They had a little bit more intensity there at the end."

Seven different Rebels recorded a tackle for loss on the day: Franklin (2.0), Purchase (1.5), Jaylon Braxton (1.5), Antonio Kite (1.0), Suntarine Perkins (1.0), Luke Ferrelli (0.5) and Keaton Thomas (0.5).

"We played a really good game," Franklin said. "Just more work that has got to be done. We got a lot of great stuff that we put on tape tonight and we have a lot of stuff that we have to clean up that resulted in the results for tonight."

QUARTERBACK MILESTONES
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss extended his streak of consecutive games with a passing touchdown to 20 after throwing a third-quarter touchdown pass to Horatio Fields. Chambliss has surpassed Matt Corral for the second-longest streak in program history, trailing only Chad Kelly's school-record streak of 22 consecutive games.

"One drive, one possession, one play, one snap at a time, and then go from there," Chambliss said. "We had a great shot at the end. It's just super unfortunate that it had to come down to that. If we did things right offensively, I feel like we could have been in a way better position instead of having to do an onside kick and having to throw a Hail Mary to try to push a tie. But yeah, that just falls on me."

Chambliss completed 25 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns against Texas. His 25 completions brought his Ole Miss career total to 461, moving him past John Fourcade for eighth in program history.

"Watch the tape, note the mistakes and what was good, then go from there," Chambliss said. "Take it like a man, then face it head up. You just got to admit when you're wrong."
