AUSTIN, Texas – Trailing by 21 at the half, the No. 7 Ole Miss (5-2, 3-2 SEC) football team tied the game at 24 early in the fourth quarter after a surging comeback. However, after trailing late and down a touchdown with just over a minute to play following an onside kick recovery, the Rebels would fall just short to No. 18 Texas (5-2, 2-2 SEC) 34-27 on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Trinidad Chambliss threw for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the defense forced three turnovers. Jayln Crawford tallied two interceptions and Kam Franklin recorded his first career touchdown.

Offensive Leaders
Trinidad Chambliss finished the day 25-of-52 through the air with 250 yards and two scores. Deuce Alexander paced Ole Miss in receiving with eight catches for 87 yards and Horatio Fields tallied two receiving touchdowns on the night.

Defensive Leaders
Keaton Thomas led the Rebels with eight tackles, including three quarterback hurries. Kam Franklin added six tackles with 2.0 TFL, a fumble recovery, a defensive score and a quarterback hurry, while Blake Purchase loaded the box score with four tackles, a sack, 1.5 TFL, a forced fumble, a QB hurry and pass breakup. Jalyn Crawford intercepted two passes.

First Quarter
After Ole Miss punted on its opening drive, Texas marched 69 yards on eight plays to reach the Rebels' 10-yard line. However, the Ole Miss defense tightened near the goal line, with Suntarine Perkins batting down a pass to force a field goal attempt.

A 36-yard catch-and-run from Chambliss to Deuce Alexander moved the Rebels to the Texas 30-yard line on their second drive. Facing fourth-and-long, Ole Miss turned to Lucas Carneiro, who connected on a 46-yard field goal to even the score at 3-3.

On Texas' ensuing drive, Jalyn Crawford jumped an Arch Manning pass on third-and-seven to intercept the throw and give the Rebels possession in Longhorn territory.

Texas answered with an interception of its own on the very next play, reclaiming possession at its own 41-yard line. The Rebels' defense responded, as Blake Purchase got a hand on an Arch Manning pass to help force a three-and-out and get the ball back for Ole Miss.

Following an Ole Miss three-and-out, Texas overcame a holding penalty and moved into Rebel territory with a 43-yard completion. The Longhorns followed with a 21-yard run to move inside the Ole Miss five-yard line. Manning kept the ball on a read-option play and crossed the goal line to give Texas a 10-3 lead with 55 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

Second Quarter
The Longhorns began its next drive at its own 39-yard line. Facing third-and-long, Arch Manning scrambled for a first down to keep the drive alive. Two plays later, Manning connected with Wingo over the middle for a 50-yard touchdown, extending the Longhorns' lead to 17-3.

After the Rebels failed to convert on third down, Texas set up shop at its own 39 and benefited from a roughing-the-passer penalty to move across midfield. A facemask penalty on the Rebels pushed the Longhorns into the red zone, where Terry III punched in a two-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Texas lead to 24-3.

Facing fourth down at their own 20-yard line, Ole Miss caught Texas off guard with a fake punt, as Oscar Bird kept the ball and picked up 17 yards to extend the drive. The Rebels took over offensively at their own 37, where Makhi Frazier broke through the middle for a 34-yard gain to reach the Texas 27-yard line. While Ole Miss continued to move the ball and advance inside the Longhorns' three-yard line, Texas came up with an interception on fourth-and-goal to deny the Rebels any points.

Third Quarter
Ole Miss' defense put the Rebels on the scoreboard early in the third quarter. Blake Purchase strip-sacked Arch Manning, forcing a fumble that Kam Franklin pounced on at the goal line to cut the deficit to 24-10 less than two minutes into the second half.

Moments later, Ole Miss took over at its own 20-yard line and crossed into Texas territory after picking up a pair of first downs. A Texas penalty and several runs by Makhi Frazier helped the Rebels continue their march into the red zone. Chambliss capped the opening drive of the second half with a six-yard touchdown pass to Horatio Fields, cutting the deficit to 24-17 with 6:46 remaining in the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
An 11-yard completion to Alexander moved Ole Miss across midfield, before a pass interference penalty put the Rebels inside the Texas 30-yard line. On the very next play, Chambliss connected with Fields on a 27-yard back-shoulder fade for Fields' second touchdown reception of the day. The score tied the game at 24-24 with 13:57 remaining.

The Rebels' defense continued its strong second-half performance, intercepting Manning for the second time and forcing its third turnover of the game. Crawford came up with his second interception of the night at the Ole Miss 20-yard line to end the Longhorns' possession.

Moving down the field quickly, Manning finished a Texas drive with a quarterback keeper on second-and-goal, putting Texas back in front, 31-24, with just over eight minutes remaining.

On their next possession, Texas found themselves in Ole Miss territory after a long rush from running back Raleek Brown. However, the home team would settle for a field goal and go up 10 with 2:25 remaining.

Beginning at their own 25, Chambliss would move the ball down the field with completions to Traylon Ray and Caleb Odom. Playing against the clock, Ole Miss took a 40-yard field goal from Carneiro to bring the Rebels within seven with 1:22 left.

Attempting an onside kick, the Ole Miss special teams unit came up with the ball following a scrum, putting the Rebels back on offense.

Chambliss found Ray on third down for 13 yards to put Ole Miss at midfield with under a minute remaining. On fourth down, Chambliss again converted, finding Alexander on the sideline for a first down at the Texas 39.

A completion to Odom to the sideline put the Rebels inside the Longhorn 25. With two seconds left, Chambliss' final pass in the endzone was intercepted as the Rebels comeback attempt fell just short.
