Soccer Picks Up Point in SEC Opener Draw Against Auburn

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss Soccer team earned its first league point of the season after a 1-1 draw against Auburn on senior night. Sidney O'Billovich tied a career-high with 11 saves in the match.
"Competing in this conference and being able to come away with a point to open up SEC play is a positive note" said head coach Molly Rouse. "The most noteworthy part of the game in my opinion was the tough start and to go down as early as we did but then the resilience to fight back and continue to fight until the end of the match."
Auburn scored quickly finding the back of the net in the sixth minute.
Ole Miss would respond with a goal from Kate Smith in the 28th to even the score at one. Smith's goal marked her first of the season and third of her career.
Sidney O'Billovich was terrific in goal for the Rebels, tying a career-high with 11 saves. She faced a career-high 28 shots from the Tigers and 13 corner opportunities. Chance after chance though, O'Billovich hung tough and kept Auburn at bay.
The Ole Miss back line had several key deflections and cleared several corner opportunities to stifle momentum for Auburn offensively.
Ole Miss (4-1-1, 0-0-1 SEC) will have the weekend off before gearing up for their first SEC road test at No. 15/22 South Carolina next Thursday. Kickoff in Columbia is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
