Cross Country to Open 2025 Season at Memphis Twilight

8/29/2025 | Cross Country

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country opens its 2025 slate with a short trip up to the Memphis Twilight on Saturday night, hosted by Christian Brothers University at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

Saturday begins a three-meet regular season for the Rebels, which resumes Sept. 26 at Missouri's Gans Creek Classic before a trip back to Columbia for the high-powered Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 18. The postseason will then begin for Ole Miss, first with the SEC Championships at Tennessee on Oct. 31, the NCAA South Regional in Huntsville, Alabama on Nov. 14 and then back to Missouri for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22.

Ole Miss is under the direction of fourth-year cross country coach Adam Smith, who has led the Rebels to three NCAA team qualifying berths – including one for the Ole Miss men last fall, who earned an automatic spot after finishing second at the NCAA South Regional before taking 25th at the national meet.

The Ole Miss men begin the 2025 season nationally ranked at No. 27 in the USTFCCCA Preseason Coaches Poll released this week and were picked to finish third in this year's SEC Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Rebel men return three members from its national qualifying squad in 2024, led by NCAA All-South Region and All-SEC senior Toby Gillen, who returns for his final season of competition after wrapping a superb All-American track career this past spring.

Fellow returners include All-SEC senior Evan Thornton-Sherman and fellow senior Gabe Scales, while the Rebel men welcome in talented newcomers such as Marco Perez (Cal State Fullerton). Kidus Misgina, who joined the Rebel track & field program in January, will make his Ole Miss cross country debut later this fall after shattering the school 10K record outdoors back in April.

The Rebel women, meanwhile, welcome in 10 newcomers for 2025 in the hopes of replacing All-SEC runner Loral Winn, who concluded her final cross country season last fall as only the third Rebel woman to ever qualify for NCAAs as an individual. Among the returnees for Ole Miss this fall is senior Sophie Baumann, who earned her first career NCAA All-South Region honor after a 23rd-place finish at the regional meet.

Rebel women returnees opening the 2025 season this weekend are juniors Adie Luna and Brooke Preputnick, while making their Ole Miss cross country debut are freshman Madison Archdale (Tennessee), sophomore Hannah Doyle, freshman Natalie Duggan, sophomore Ella Johnson (Tennessee), freshman Addy Mitchell and freshman Leah Penick.

Rebel men returnees running Saturday are sophomore Zack Gilbertson, sophomore Aidan Hodge, junior Landen McNair, senior Gabe Scales and sophomore Stone Smith, while making their debuts are freshman Samuel Ferguson, freshman Ky Hehir, and senior Marco Perez.

Competition will begin at 9:20 p.m. CT on Saturday night with the women's college 5K race, followed by the men's college 4-mile race at 10 p.m. CT. More information regarding the meet can be found HERE.
