Men’s Cross Country Wins Title at Memphis Twilight, Women Take Runner-Up

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss men's cross country opened the 2025 season with a team win, while the Rebel women took runner-up honors at the Memphis Twilight late Saturday night.
The 27th-ranked Rebel men notched a 13-point victory over Middle Tennessee in the four-mile race, scoring 28 points after slotting all five scorers within the top-12 spots. Redshirt sophomore Zack Gilbertson led the way, crossing the line in 19:18.57. Senior Gabe Scales wasn't far behind in sixth place at 16:20.19, with junior Landen McNair in seventh at 19:24.07, redshirt freshman Ky Hehir in eighth at 19:25.99 and redshirt freshman Samuel Ferguson rounding out the scoring in 12th at 19:43.34.
Other Rebel men running on Saturday night were sophomore Aidan Hodge (13th, 19:48.65), sophomore Stone Smith (17th, 20:00.02) and senior Marco Perez (25th, 20:21.15).
The Rebel women narrowly finished second, finishing runner-up by two points to Mississippi State (42) with 44 total points.
Almost all of Ole Miss' roster on Saturday night were newcomers, including the top of the pack that was dominated by Rebel freshmen. Freshman Leah Penick debuted in excellent fashion, finishing in fifth place at 17:21.70, and was followed by fellow freshmen Addy Mitchell (sixth, 17:28.21) and Natalie Duggan (ninth, 17:48.40) in the top-10. Rounding out the scoring for the Rebel women were redshirt sophomores Hannah Doyle (12th, 17:52.23) and Ella Johnson (15th, 17:58.76).
Other Ole Miss women running Saturday were redshirt freshman Madison Archdale (16th, 18:08.31), junior Adie Luna (18th, 18:22.91) and junior Brooke Preputnick (34th, 19:00.70).
Ole Miss returns to action next month, with a trip scheduled to Missouri for the Gans Creek Classic on Fri., Sept. 26.
