No. 17 Softball Takes Game 1 from No. 4 Arkansas in Fayetteville Super Regional

5/23/2025 | Softball

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A relentless offensive effort propelled the No. 17 Ole Miss softball program to a 9-7 opening game win at the Fayetteville Super Regional over No. 4 Arkansas.

With the win, the Rebels (41-18, 11-13 SEC) won their first NCAA Super Regional game in program history. Ashton Lansdell led the way with a home run and three RBI, while Aliyah Binford added a home run and recorded a save in relief against the Razorbacks (43-13, 14-10 SEC).

The day opened with a bang, as Binford took advantage of her first at-bat of the day and blasted an opposite field home run to right center field for a 1-0 advantage. The home run set the Rebels single season RBI record with her 55th of the season, breaking Abbey Latham’s mark set in 2019.

However, the Razorbacks quickly responded with their own home run, striking for three runs.

In the second inning, the Rebels utilized strong plate discipline to draw a pair of walks. The Rebels went to their big bat off the bench in Taylor Roman, who worked the count full. Roman attacked a 3-2 pitch and nearly lifted it out of the park, but settled for a two-run double off the wall to tie the game at 3-3.

The Rebels took control in the fourth after back-to-back RBI doubles by Lexie Brady and Mackenzie Pickens.

The offense continued its critical two-out swinging, as Ashton Lansdell was next up. The veteran continued the run of extra-base hits, hitting a towering two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-3.

Arkansas got one back in the third, but Ole Miss answered after a leadoff single by Jaden Pone, who later scored on a Brady sacrifice fly. Lansdell then walked with the bases loaded for her third RBI and Ole Miss' ninth run.

The Razorbacks stayed in it offensively, loading the bases in the fourth and fifth, but Miali Guachino used a flyout in the fourth and strikeout in the fifth to escape the jams with just two total runs allowed.

Arkansas gave itself one last shot at a comeback win at home, placing two on with nobody out in the seventh, but Binford struck out back-to-back Razorbacks, including Softball America’s National Player of the Year Bri Ellis, and induced a game-ending flyout to secure the win.

Ole Miss and Arkansas will for game two on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
