OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis fell short in a nail biter to No. 25 South Carolina, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Facility.
The Rebels (9-6, 2-4 SEC) faced a tough matchup in doubles on all three courts and prevailed with the point advantage leading into singles. Andrea Nova and Brooklyn Olson notched a victory on court two over Bella Larsson and Olympe Lancelot, 6-4, while Lucie Petruzelova and Rachel Krzyzak won on their court following a South Carolina (9-5, 4-1 SEC) retirement.
On court six, Emma Kette soared through both sets to add the second point for Ole Miss. The junior defeated Lauren Friedman, 6-3, 6-3. This marks Kette's first dual singles win of the season, as well as her first against an SEC foe.
Succeeding Kette, Petruzelova secured a 6-3, 6-4, victory against Lancelot. The senior transfer improved her win total this season to 14, tied for the most by any Rebel thus far.
All eyes turned to court four between Ole Miss' Alice Soulié and South Carolina's Misa Malkin, after the Gamecocks forced a tie at three. Threatening from the jump, Soulié led with a 7-6 (9-7) first set advantage after a back-and-forth tie break. No. 93 Malkin forced a third set and ultimately called the game for the Gamecocks.
Three other Rebels fell short on their respective singles courts.
