Women’s Tennis Drops Match Against No. 1 Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis fell short in its match against Georgia, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Facility.
The Rebels (9-7, 2-5 SEC) gave up the doubles point to give Georgia (14-1, 7-0 SEC) the early lead. Midseason signees Alice Soulié and Emily Welker notched their first win as a pair, a ranked one at that. They defeated No. 75 Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry, 6-2.
Singles began with Lucie Petruzelova taking the first set on court three. Petruzelova raced through the second set to put the Rebels on the board with a 6-4, 6-2, final score against Mell Reasco. Petruzelova now has a team-leading 15 singles wins on the season, seven of which coming in dual competitions.
Two Rebels fell short on their respective courts, to give Georgia the 3-1 lead. Welker gave Dasha Vidmanova, the top player in the country, a fight in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker. Welker ultimately fell short as Vidmanova clinched the match for Georgia.
The Rebels faced four ranked Bulldogs in singles. Soulié fought to force a third set against No. 41 Aysegul Mert on court four. It was a similar story for Emma Kette, who forced a third set against Sofia Rojas on court six. Both courts would go unfinished.
Up next, the Rebels will travel to the Lone Star State to take on Texas A&M on Friday, March 25, at 5 p.m., followed by Texas on Sunday, March 23, at 12 p.m. CT.
