Green Wave Scouting Report
Tulane (11-2, 7-1 American) rode an excellent regular season to its first-ever College Football Playoff berth, earning one of the automatic spots to the top-five ranked conference champions -- one of two bids to the Group of Five alongside the Sun Belt's James Madison. The Green Wave come to Oxford with the 11-seed in the playoff bracket and a No. 20 slot in the final CFP rankings, and will return to familiar ground when it comes to Oxford this weekend. Tulane's two blemishes on the season came to UTSA on Oct. 30 (48-26) and at then No. 11 Ole Miss on Sept. 20, falling 45-10 to a powerful Rebel performance. The Green Wave rebounded, though, going 8-1 the remainder of the season, which culminated in winning the American Conference title over North Texas on Dec. 5. Head coach Jon Sumrall, who has recently named the next head coach at Florida, has led the Green Wave to their first playoff appearance thanks to an excellent offensive line and the play of transfer QB Jake Retzlaff, who ranks fourth nationally at 16 rushing touchdowns.
