2024 Ole Miss Football Schedule Release: Five Takeaways
12/14/2023 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – The road to the 2024-25 College Football Playoff is set for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football team as the Southeastern Conference announced its full 2024 schedule on Thursday.
Check out previews of our home games and road games for the SEC slate, and read on for five takeaways from the 2024 SEC schedule release, as well as Ole Miss' non-conference games for the coming season.
Marquee Games at the Vaught
There will be several hot tickets at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for 2024. The Rebels will host SEC newcomer Oklahoma on Oct. 26, the Sooners' first trip to Oxford. Ole Miss will welcome the current two-time reigning national champion Georgia on Nov. 9. Finally, the Egg Bowl will take place in Oxford for the regular season finale. The tilt with Mississippi State is currently set for Saturday, Nov. 30, but is subject to change.
Bye, Bye
The 2024 schedule features two off weeks, and both appear to come at favorable times for the Rebels. Ole Miss opens its year with a string of seven straight games, capped off with an Oct. 12 trip to Baton Rouge, arguably the toughest road test of the season. The break will come just in time for new SEC foe Oklahoma to come to Oxford. The second bye is sandwiched between a huge home tilt against Georgia and the final road game of the season at Florida.
East and West Were One
If the addition of Oklahoma to the slate wasn't enough of a revelation, the number of former SEC East teams on the Ole Miss schedule will certainly point to the new era in the conference. The Rebels open SEC play with back-to-back former East teams in Kentucky and South Carolina. A third former East opponent, Florida, awaits in Gainesville on Nov. 23.
New QBs on the Road
Ole Miss has some tough tests on the road, but the good news: a few of those road foes will be breaking in new QBs in 2024. South Carolina will be replacing Spencer Rattler, LSU must replace Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. Florida will get Graham Mertz back, but he'll be coming off a fractured collarbone. For Arkansas, rumors have swirled around KJ Jefferson, but he hasn't yet made a decision on his future.
Non-Con Preview
Ole Miss will open its 2024 season at home against Furman, then the following week again at the Vaught against Middle Tennessee. The Rebels' first 2024 road trip will be to ACC opponent Wake Forest on Sept. 14. They'll return home to take on Georgia Southern before starting SEC play at home against Kentucky on Sept. 28.
