Rifle Sails to First Conference Win Over Navy

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle grabs first conference win of the season in a 4714-4702 win over No. 13 Navy. The Rebels scorched a 2374 in air rifle to seal the victory.
Some familiar faces led Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1) in the match, helping the team take down their first GARC opponent of the year. Lea Horvath tied for the highest aggregate score of 1184, scoring 590 or above in smallbore and air rifle. Emma Pereira and Kristen Derting also landed in the top-five of individual aggregate scores. Pereira tallied an 1178, and Derting fired an 1176.
Regan Diamond continues to excel for the Rebels, finishing barely outside the top-five with an 1175.
It all started with Horvath firing a 590 in smallbore to lead all Rebels and place second overall. Pereira and Diamond also made it into the smallbore top-five, shooting a 584. Diamond led all shooters with 38 centered shots.
The Rebels performed the best in air rifle, headed by fifth-year senior Derting. The All-American tied for the highest air rifle mark, hitting 595. However, Derting would pace the field in centered shots, compiling 48. Ole Miss featured four in the air rifle top-five. Horvath, Pereira and Martina Gratz shot 594 to tie for third place. On her way to 594, Pereira went perfect through her first 30 shots.
Two other Rebels fired an air rifle score higher than 590. Diamond and Katie Tedeschi each shot a 591. In 10th place, Katelyn Foust found her groove, tallying a season-high 589.
Navy's Isabella Baldwin tied Horvath with the top match score of 1184. Baldwin also shot the highest smallbore score of 591. Marleigh Duncan tied Derting in air rifle, firing a 595.
Ole Miss heads on the road for another doubleheader in Lexington against Akron and No. 5 Kentucky. The first match against Akron is on November 4.
