Rifle Finishes Conference Play with Win Over No. 13 NC State

The Rebels Outscore the Wolfpack by 50

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle finishes conference play with a dominant, 4720-4670 win over NC State. The Rebels finish GARC play with a 5-2 record.

Ole Miss (7-2, 5-2 GARC) showed its dominance over NC State (2-6, 1-6 GARC) in both disciplines. The Rebels outscored the Wolfpack by 22 in smallbore with a score of 2344. Their air rifle score 2376 also outscored the opponent by 26.

The top two performing shooters of the match wear navy and red. At the top once again is Lea Horvath for the third consecutive match. The junior from Hungary tallied a 1186 combined score. Kristen Derting was right behind her teammate, shooting a 1185 aggregate score. Claire O'Neel rounded out the top-5 for the Rebels with a 1170 aggregate score. O'Neel is in the top-5 for the second straight match.

It was almost all Ole Miss is smallbore as the Rebels placed five of the top six scores in the discipline. Leading the pack, Horvath fired a 594 which ties Derting and herself for the program record. The junior has hit that mark twice this season. The rest of the top-5 was Derting, Hays and Pereira with scores of 589, 582, and 579. M'Leah Lambdin had a solid smallbore score of 578 and finishing in sixth despite not being a counter.

It was the same for the Rebels in air rifle, once again placing five of the top six performers. Derting was the top air rifle score, hitting a 596. O'Neel shot a season-high 594 for the second straight week. That score was good enough for third-best. Martina Gratz also fired a 594 and Horvath placed fifth with a 592. Pereira was just outside the top-5 with her 590 score.

NC State struggled for the most part however had two bright spots on their team. As a team, the scored a 4670 with smallbore score of 2330 and an air rifle score of 2350. Ben Salas and Katie Tedeschi finished in third and fourth overall. Salas began his day shooting his best smallbore score of the season with a 592, which was the second-best of the match. Tedeschi was second in air rifle after scoring a 594.

Ole Miss remains at home for another matchup against No. 12 Memphis at 8 a.m. The Rebels take a two week break before facing the Tigers on Saturday, February 11.
