Rifle Faces Memphis for the Second Time this Season

The Rebels Aim to Extend Series Win Streak to Nine Matches
OXFORD, Miss - Ole Miss rifle remains at home for a match against No. 12 Memphis on Saturday, February 11. The match is now starting an hour earlier at 8 a.m. CT.

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle finishes conference play with a dominant, 4720-4670 win over NC State. The Rebels finish GARC play with a 5-2 record.
Ole Miss (7-2, 5-2 GARC) showed its dominance over NC State (2-6, 1-6 GARC) in both disciplines. The Rebels outscored the Wolfpack by 22 in smallbore with a score of 2344. Their air rifle score 2376 also outscored the opponent by 26.
The top two performing shooters of the match wear navy and red. At the top once again is Lea Horvath for the third consecutive match. The junior from Hungary tallied a 1186 combined score. Kristen Derting was right behind her teammate, shooting a 1185 aggregate score. Claire O'Neel rounded out the top-5 for the Rebels with a 1170 aggregate score. O'Neel is in the top-5 for the second straight match.
It was almost all Ole Miss is smallbore as the Rebels placed five of the top six scores in the discipline. Leading the pack, Horvath fired a 594 which ties Derting and herself for the program record. The junior has hit that mark twice this season. The rest of the top-5 was Derting, Hays and Pereira with scores of 589, 582, and 579. M'Leah Lambdin had a solid smallbore score of 578 and finishing in sixth despite not being a counter.
It was the same for the Rebels in air rifle, once again placing five of the top six performers. Derting was the top air rifle score, hitting a 596. O'Neel shot a season-high 594 for the second straight week. That score was good enough for third-best. Martina Gratz also fired a 594 and Horvath placed fifth with a 592. Pereira was just outside the top-5 with her 590 score.
NC State struggled for the most part however had two bright spots on their team. As a team, the scored a 4670 with smallbore score of 2330 and an air rifle score of 2350. Ben Salas and Katie Tedeschi finished in third and fourth overall. Salas began his day shooting his best smallbore score of the season with a 592, which was the second-best of the match. Tedeschi was second in air rifle after scoring a 594.
Ole Miss remains at home for another matchup against No. 12 Memphis at 8 a.m. The Rebels take a two week break before facing the Tigers on Saturday, February 11.

The Tigers, coached by Morgan Phillips in her first season, are 4-7 overall and finished 2-5 in the conference. Memphis is having a better end to the season as they have won two of their last three matches, defeating No. 19 UT Martin and No. 8 Murray State. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 12 in the nation.
The team averages an aggregate score of 4679.1 per match. They are led by senior Angeline Henry in both smallbore and air rifle. Henry averages a smallbore score of 583.6 and an air rifle score of 594.0 for a total of 1177.6. She has been the top performing Tiger in every match this season. Freshman Gabriela Zych is making a huge impact in the lineup as well. Zych is the other player on the roster averaging over 590 in air rifle along with an average score of 579.0 in smallbore.

In the last five season, Ole Miss rifle has been almost unstoppable in the month of February, tallying a 11-2 record. The only two losses both occurred during the 2019-20 season against No. 2 TCU and No. 4 Nebraska in back-to-back weeks.
This year, the Rebels play two matches in February and they are both against No. 12 Memphis, who the Rebels defeated 4743- 4670 back in November. It was the Rebels largest win of the season.
Horvathing A Good Time
Lea Horvath became the only women in NCAA history to score a perfect 600 in air rifle three times in their career. The junior has scored perfect in every season of her career as a Rebel. She is one of four to shoot perfect this season.
Horvath also broke some school records. She tied the match smallbore score with a 594 twice this year and three times total. She shattered the record for match aggregate score, which she previously held with a 1194.
GRATZCIOUS
Sophomore Martina Gratz put up a 595 air rifle score in the Rebels win over No. 10 Akron which was her season-high. It is also one point below Gratz's career-high of 596.
Gratz was a huge reasons Ole Miss pulled of the one-point victory over No. 10 Akron. Since the top two air rifle performances of the match were on the Zips, Gratz's performance was needed to secure the victory.
Our Best Days
When the Rebels match up with Memphis, they tend to shoot their best. In the last four meetings, Ole Miss rifle has fired four of their top-10 marks in program history. This season, the Rebels broke the program record for aggregate score with a 4743.
Especially in air rifle as the Rebels shot five of top-10 air rifle scores when facing Memphis.
Freshman Duo
In their first year at Ole Miss, Julianna Hays and Emma Pereira are making significant impacts in the lineup. They are two of the 37 different shooters to score a 590 or above in the nation in smallbore. Hays, from Maplewood, Minnesota, has been a counter for the team in both smallbore and air rifle all season. She shot 591 and twice shooting a 593 in air rifle this season. She is third on the team for smallbore average, air rifle and aggregate score.
Pereira is one of Ole Miss' five smallbore counters and has joined air rifle counters late in the season. She shot a 594 in air rifle against No. 3 Kentucky. She also scored a 590 in smallbore and an 1183 aggregate against No. 12 Murray State. All were season and career highs.
