Little Becomes First Offensive Lineman Ever to be Named Finalist for Texas-Specific Award
TYLER, Texas – Ole Miss offensive lineman Greg Little was named one of six finalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced Thursday.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
Little, a junior out of Allen, Texas, is the first offensive lineman ever to be named a finalist for the Tyler Rose Award, now in its sixth year.
Little has anchored the Ole Miss offensive line, appearing in every game at left tackle for the last three seasons. Heralded as one of the top NFL Draft prospects for 2019, Little earned second team All-American at the midway point by Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Associated Press and Athlon. He was also on the watch list for Outland Trophy.
He was part of an Ole Miss offensive line that helped protect one of the top offensive units in the country. Ole Miss ranks ninth in the country in total offense and fifth in passing yards. Little was a key anchor on the left side of the line that paved the way for running back Scottie Phillips, who ranks second in the SEC with 14 total touchdowns.
The other five finalists for the award include: Eno Benjamin (Arizona State), D'Eriq King (Houston), Kyler Murrary (Oklahoma), Tylan Wallace (Oklahoma State) and Trayveon Williams (Texas A&M).
The winner will be announced at an award banquet in Tyler, Texas, on Jan. 9.
