Rifle Secures First Victory of Season

OXFORD, Miss. --The Ole Miss rifle team came out on top in their first match of the 2017-18 season. The Rebels (4661) secured the victory over NC State (4650) Sunday at the NCAA Test Match hosted by the Citadel.
Ole Miss posted a 2314 in smallbore with a 2347 air rifle score for a combined 4661. This score is six points higher than the top score the Rebels shot last season (4655) and just three points under the school record of 4664 shot at the NCAA Sectional in 2006.
Marsha's Minute...
"This tournament was a great way for us to open the season. As a team we shot well. Our score of 4661 is the second highest in school history, three points off the school record set in 2006. Certainly, we are happy to start the season with a win against NC State. We are now 1-0 in the Great America Rifle Conference."
Smallbore Notes...
The Rebels shot a 2314 in smallbore led by junior, Harley Gardner's 581, a nine-point increase from last season. Coming in behind Gardner was junior, Randi Loudin's 580. Senior Jessica Haig shot a 579 followed by sophomore, Hayley Carroll, who posted a 574.
Air Rifle Notes...
In air rifle, the Rebels posted a 2347 score led by Gardner's 591, six points above last season's score. Haig recorded a 590. Two of the Rebels' seven freshmen made their debut. Emily Cock of Silverton, Oregon shot a 584 followed by Kamilla Kisch of Maple Grove, Minnesota who posted a 582.
Assistant Coach JP Lucas...
"Coach Beasley and I are very happy with the way the team performed today. Everyone had some ups and downs during their match, but overall there were many positive aspects to be taken away from today. With that said, the team still has a lot of potential and we will continue to focus on our goals."
Up Next...
The Rebels will host Army Saturday, Oct. 7, in the team's home opener. The match will start at 9 a.m. CT at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center located off Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue.
