Coach Houston Nutt Post Game Quotes

On the distractions of Jeremiah Masoli and Kentrell Lockett this week:

I'm sure it did but you try to coach against that. My hats off to Jacksonville State and Coach Crowe , they have a great team. I applaud them but I am ready to get back and get our guys going. This would have to be one of my toughest losses, you do not want to get started off like this.

On Randall Mackey:

I talked to him yesterday. He is a winner and a great player. Instead of spot playing here and there, I asked him to red shirt this year and he agreed. He has really improved for having just gotten here. He has a great arm and I appreciate his great attitude.

On Atmosphere in the lockerroom:

It was quiet, nothing was being said. It was a disappointed locker room and it should be. It was sad.

What he told the players after the game:

I told them that this is when we find out what everybody is about. Everyone can celebrate pretty good when we win. There will be people on the outside trying to turn you into a lockerroom lawyer, but don't listen to them, come back and just work.

On quarterbacks for next weekend:

It`s pretty much going to be along the same lines. We just have to get it all worked out. Jeremiah didn't get to practice very much last week, and I think he did well for not having practiced. I am very proud of both of them.

OLE MISS PLAYER QUOTES

LB D.T. Shackelford

How do you think the defense played as a whole, even though it didn't end as you wanted it to?

Disappointing, not up to Rebel standards, embarrassing. I give all the credit to Jacksonville State for never giving up, but we played embarrassingly. That's not up to our standards at all. So, we'll go back to the drawing board, we'll see what we need to fix.

Are you looking forward to getting back on the field?

Yes, this is horrible, this is as low as it gets. Like I said, you have to give credit to JSU. We had a 31-10 halftime lead and we just let it go, basically we let up. I'm ready to get in and see what went wrong.

QB Nathan Stanley

On the play of the offense:

"The receivers did really well. As far as the offensive line and the running backs, they caught the ball really well. Melvin [Harris] did really well at wideout. It was a tough loss and we want it back."

RB Brandon Bolden

On the loss to Jacksonville State:

"The offensive line did really well and they were pushing guys back. It was a very tough loss. Like Coach said, you have to go on to the next play. Jacksonville State wanted it more and we couldn't match them. They got after us and we couldn't get after them."

Jacksonville State Head Coach Jack Crowe

Opening Statement:

We are just extremely happy to do something that our university has been talking about and trying to do for a little while. This is tremendous credit to the heart of our players because we really played a lot of bad football out there but there is an attitude about people who come to this program to win, no credit to me. This guy right here (Marques Ivory) didn't lose a high school football game and he (Coty Blanchard) didn't lose but one. They brought it when they came.

So, we found a way to win and we did, I would have to say and we did whatever it takes, we were fortunate. If I could talk about Houston's team, I wouldn't normally do this except I really carry Houston like a brother and I have for a long time but we probably took advantage of them searching for themselves, a little bit.

We had very timely play makers. I thought the biggest of the day being Marques bringing the team down the field at that time and the two point play, to me average guys can't do that. A lot of guys in the SEC won't be able to do that. I give credit to our players but there are some circumstances that we probably wouldn't be able to repeat in a hundred years if we tried to do them again, but we will take it. Marques was our starting quarterback today. We happen to have two really good quarterbacks, we played both of them because we knew we would need the talents of both of them. We went for two because I don't think we could have gone back out there and played defense again, they were wearing us down.

I have been on the other side of this, we are going to fight our butt off in every game. I will be real surprised if these people aren't in the running for the West. When they have their quarterback situation, identity straightened out they will be okay.

We made our identity here today and were fortunate enough to have our guys step up and make really big plays when it counted.

On the effect of game changers:

I think we have to be real careful next week because we did enough things to lose to Chattanooga today.

Jacksonville State QB Coty Blanchard

On the two-point conversion in overtime:

I just take the snap and roll what we do is we usually pitch it to him (Calvin Middleton) and he was right there and we'll take whatever we can get.

Jacksonville State QB Marques Ivory

On the last drive:

There was nothing to be done but to do it. Disappointed when we got into the fourth and long but we trusted everybody. Once we got that I knew were going to sure.

Jacksonville State RB Darius Barksdale

On returning to Ole Miss:

I was excited to get to play.
