Rebels Make Hospital Visit in Dallas

One of the highlighted stops on the University of Mississippi's AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic week-long list of activities was a visit to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children on Friday afternoon.

"It puts a smile on these kids' faces," said Rebel offensive lineman and first-team All-American Michael Oher as he and his coaches, teammates and members of the athletic department staff made quite of an impression on the more than 80 children and hospital staff members in attendance.

Each child was provided with a Dr Pepper/Snapple Group gift bag filled with a t-shirt provided by the Dr Pepper, AT&T Cotton Bowl wrist band and poster, a few Ole Miss logo trinkets and a marker for autographs. Each Rebel player brought with them an Ole Miss-attired Beanie Baby and a miniature-sized stuffed football to autograph and give to the children.

"A hospital visit like this teaches our guys to be grateful, thankful and to count their blessings every day, said Ole Miss head football coach Houston Nutt.

The event began with greetings from former AT&T Cotton Bowl Chairman John Stuart and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children President J.C. Montgomery Jr. The event continued on a very special note as former Ole Miss football player and namesake for the TSRHC's center for dyslexia, Dr. Luke Waites, was presented with an Ole Miss football jersey with his name and number on it, as well as a 1941 team picture which every Rebel player signed.

"It was a good feeling to see the team here today. I love Ole Miss and love Scottish Rite and I love what they do for these children," said Waites.

The word celebrity was redefined today in the reception area of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children as the Rebel fooball players were not only signing the children's t-shirts, posters and hats, but they were seeking out the children like rock stars to get their autographs before they left the event.

Rebel QB Jevan Snead, who signed autographs, posed for photos and made the rounds visiting the children said, "It's a great opportunity for us to come here and try to give a little something back. I feel very fortunate to be here and to represent our university."

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is one of the nation's leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain neurological disorders and learning disorders and has been an annual stop by AT&T Cotton Bowl teams for more than a decade.
