Green-Ellis Honored by Jackson Touchdown Club

12/5/2007 | Football

JACKSON, Miss. The Jackson Touchdown Club recently honored BenJarvus Green-Ellis as Ole Miss’ Most Valuable Senior, as chosen by the coaching staffs of participating Mississippi collegiate football programs.

A running back from New Orleans, Green-Ellis turned in the second-best rushing season in school history with 1,137 yards and became only the second player in school history to reach the 1,000-yard single-season mark twice in his career. He recorded five 100-yard rushing games this year and ended his tenure No. 5 on the Rebels’ career rushing list.

The Jackson Touchdown Club has presented this awards program each year since 1946, the year the organization was founded by the late Dr. Lacey Hughes, a Jackson native who gathered 15 football fans together to celebrate the sport of football.

Celebrating the program’s 62nd anniversary, the Jackson Touchdown Club Most Valuable Senior Award is one of the oldest and most prestigious honors presented by a quarterback or touchdown club in the Southeastern United States
