OLE MISS POSTGAME NOTES
SERIES NOTES

  • Tonight's meeting was the 93rd all-time between Ole Miss and LSU dating back to 1894.
  • The Tigers now lead the series 52-37-4, including holding a 35-24-1 edge in Baton Rouge.
  • LSU has now won three straight in the series, its longest streak in the series since winning three consecutive against the Rebels from 1987-1989.
  • The Tigers' last three wins in the series have come by a total of seven points.
  • LSU is Ole Miss' second-most played opponent, next to Mississippi State, whom the Rebels will play for the 101st time next Saturday in Oxford.

REBEL NOTEBOOK

  • Ole Miss has trailed at halftime in 9-of-10 games this season. The only time this season the Rebels have held the lead at halftime was on Oct. 9 at South Carolina, leading 21-14 en route to a 31-28 win.
  • Tonight marked the third time in 10 games this season that Ole Miss led after three quarters. The Rebels also held the lead after three quarters against Arkansas State (10/2) and South Carolina (10/9).
  • Tonight's 27-24 loss extended the Rebels' losing streak to four games, their longest skid since dropping five straight during the 2002 season.
  • Ole Miss is now 0-4 against SEC West teams this season, and the Rebels will need a win next weekend versus Mississippi State to avoid going 0-5 inside the division since 1996.

REBELS VERSUS RANKED TEAMS

  • LSU marked the fourth ranked opponent Ole Miss had faced this season ... The Rebels went 1-3 against top 25 teams this season, beating No. 25 South Carolina, losing 21-17 to No. 13 Tennessee and losing 35-14 to No. 3 Auburn prior to tonight's game at LSU.
  • The Rebels are now 7-12 versus top 25 teams under head coach David Cutcliffe.
  • Ole Miss is now 11-58 all-time versus ranked teams on the road, including 3-12 at "Death Valley' when the Tigers are in the top 25.
  • The Rebels are 6-15 against LSU when the Tigers are ranked.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • Ole Miss' 11-play, 61-yard scoring drive on its opening possession, resulting in Jonathan Nichols' 49-yard field goal, marked just the second time in 10 games that the Rebels have scored on their first offensive series of the game. Ole Miss had an 11-play, 90-yard scoring drive for a field goal against Arkansas State back on Oct. 2.
  • Robert Lane's four-yard TD run with 7:10 left in the second quarter marked Ole Miss' first TD since Taye Biddle's 25-yard TD reception from Ethan Flatt with 14:54 left in the fourth quarter against Auburn - a span of 97 minutes and 44 seconds.
  • Senior WR Bill Flowers caught a 12-yard pass from sophomore Ethan Flatt late in the second quarter to extend his streak to 20 consecutive games with a reception.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • Ole Miss has allowed the opposition to score on its opening series in 5-of-10 games this season (4 TDs, 1 FG), after LSU marched 74 yards on eight plays for a TD on its opening drive tonight.
  • The Rebels have now allowed a score on its first defensive series in three of the last four games.
  • Junior Corvelli Haynes drew his first career start, starting at left defensive end.
  • Sophomore Bryan Brown made his first career start at free safety. Brown made two starts last year at left cornerback.
  • LSU's Ally Broussard rushed for 250 yards on 26 carries as Ole Miss allowed a 100-yard rusher for the eighth time in 10 games this season.
  • Broussard's 58-yard run in the third quarter was the second longest rush against the Rebels this season. It also marked the third run of 50 or more yards against Ole Miss this season.
  • Broussard is the first opposing back to rush for over 200 yards against Ole Miss since Auburn's Ronnie Brown ran for 224 yards on 33 carries on Nov. 2, 2002.
  • The 250 yards rushing by Broussard was the third-most ever against Ole Miss. Tennessee' Chuck Webb gained 294 yards against the Rebels in 1989 and Georgia's Herschel Walker had 265 yards on the ground in 1981.
  • The 360 yards rushing by LSU tonight was the most allowed by Ole Miss since Arkansas gained 370 yards during the seven-overtime game played in Oxford on Nov. 3, 2001.
  • The 48-yard interception return by sophomore CB Trumaine McBride in the third quarter marked the Rebels' second TD this season off an interception. Sophomore Bryan Brown had a 34-yard TD return off an interception against Tennessee on Oct. 16.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

  • Senior PK Jonathan Nichols scored 10 points tonight to take over sole possession of sixth place on the SEC's career scoring list with 336 points. He entered the night tied with former Alabama PK Michael Proctor (1992-1995) for sixth place.
  • Nichols made his lone PAT attempt of the evening to extend his streak to 115 consecutive PATs made, which is currently the longest active streak in the nation.
  • Junior Larry Kendrick's 65-yard kickoff return in the second quarter was the longest by a Rebel this season, and was the longest by an Ole Miss player since Jason Armstead's 93-yard kickoff return for a TD in the 2001 season opener versus Murray State.
  • Ole Miss recorded a first down on a fake punt when Cody Ridgeway rushed 22 yards on a fourth-and-three at the Ole Miss 36 in the second quarter. It was the first time the Rebels have recorded a first down off a fake punt since 1998 against Alabama, when punter Reagan King completed a 20-yard pass to WR Sheldon Morris.

LSU POSTGAME NOTES
Team notes

  • LSU's game captains are 12 Marcus Randall, 13 Corey Webster and 84 Marcus Spears.
  • Today's honorary captains for LSU are Jay Michaelson (TE from 1969-71), Chad Kessler (P from 1994-1997) and Bert Jones (QB from 1970-72).
  • Ole Miss won the toss and deferred to the second half. LSU will receive to open the game.
  • Tigers extending their consecutive starts streak tonight were: OT Andrew Whitworth (37), DE Marcus Spears (29), LB Lionel Turner (25), CB Travis Daniels (24), FS LaRon Landry (19) and DT Kyle Williams (18).
  • LSU's sack of Ole Miss QB Robert Lane with 9:58 left in the first quarter (sack by DE Marcus Spears) extended the Tigers streak of recording at least one sack in a game to 35 straight.
  • Tonight's attendance of 91,413 is the 24th time Tiger Stadium's attendance is over 90,000.
  • With that figure, LSU broke the home attendance mark for a season with an average of 91,208 (638,462 total attendance for seven games). The old record was 90,974 set last year.
  • LSU under Nick Saban ... LSU is now 38-3 when leading after three quarters ... LSU is now 43-3 when scoring 20 points of more.
  • LSU has now won 10 straight games in Tiger Stadium, including a 7-0 mark this season. It is the first perfect record at home in a season since going 7-0 in 1972. NOTE -- LSU was 6-0-1 in 1976.
  • The comeback victory was the ninth time under Nick Saban that the Tigers have rallied to win a game despite trailing in the final quarter.
  • LSU is now 21-0 under Nick Saban when a player rushes for over 100 yards in a game.
  • The 360 total rushing yards are the most by LSU in a contest since collecting 400 yards versus Kentucky on Nov. 1, 1997.
  • LSU recorded two 100-yard rushers in game for the first time since Sept. 11, 1999 versus North Texas. Rondell Mealey rushed for 118 yards, while Domanick Davis added 109 yards in that contest.

Individual notes

  • RB Alley Broussard's 250 yards set the school record for rushing yards. The previous high was 246 yards by Kevin Faulk against Houston on Sept. 7, 1996.
  • Broussard's 58-yard run late in the third quarter was the sophomore's career long. His previous high was 44 yards accomplished earlier in the game.
  • Broussard has now recorded a run of at least 32 yards in three straight games.
  • With Broussard's 250 yards, he became the eighth different player to rush for over 200 yards in a game and it is the 12th time a player has accomplished the feat. Teammate Justin Vincent was the last player to rush for at least 200 yards with 201 yards against Georgia in the 2003 SEC Championship game.
  • Broussard's 26 carries are also a career high for the sophomore. His previous high was 19 at South Carolina last season.
  • Broussard tied his record with a third rushing touchdown with 10:51 left in the fourth quarter. He also scored three touchdowns against Mississippi State earlier this season. The 7-yard score was the 13th of his career. It is the second multi-touchdown game of his career.
  • DE Marcus Spears' recorded two sacks during the game, moving the senior into eighth-place on LSU's career sack list. He is now tied with Anthony McFarland with 17 sacks.
  • WR Craig Davis has now caught at least one pass in all 10 games this season. The sophomore pulled down a reception late in the first quarter.
  • PK Chris Jackson's 51-yard field goal with 1:07 left in the second quarter was a career-high and the longest made by a LSU kicker since Wade Richey kicked a 54-yarder against Kentucky in Tiger Stadium on Oct. 19, 1996.
  • The 51-yarder ties Jackson for the fifth longest field goal in LSU history.
  • DE Melvin Oliver recorded the 11th sack of his career and the first of the season in the middle of the third quarter.
  • Skyler Green recorded 32 punt return yards in the game and is now 27 yards shy of eclipsing Joe Labruzzo's 687 yards for fifth place in career punt return yards. Green entered the game with 629 yards and finished with 661 yards.
  • SS Jessie Daniels recorded the first multi-interception game of his career, making his second and third career picks.
  • He became the first player to record two interceptions in a game since Corey Webster pulled down two interceptions versus Arkansas in the home finale last season.
  • RB Joseph Addai finished with a career high 107 yards rushing on 14 carries. His previous career best was 99 yards against Alabama last weekend.
