Jay Shoop is entering his fourth year in Oxford and his first as an assistant coach, taking over inside linebacker duties.
Shoop joined Ole Miss in 2023 and was a defensive graduate assistant at Ole Miss during his first two seasons in Oxford, prior to taking on senior analyst duties in 2025.
The 2026 campaign marks Shoop’s first season as an assistant coach at the NCAA level. Prior to his time with Ole Miss, Shoop spent one season at USF in 2022 as a defensive graduate assistant. While there, he joined forces with his father, Bob, who was the Bull’s defensive coordinator that season. He also spent time as an offensive graduate, spending 2021 on the other side of the ball at FAU.
A former defensive back at Tennessee, Shoop got his first taste of coaching in Knoxville. He served as a student assistant for the Volunteers during his later years of college, breaking down film and working with fellow defensive backs. He also interned with the strength and conditioning program while there.
Shoop was a four-year member of the Tennessee football team, playing both wide receiver and defensive back. He was a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll student, earning Vol Scholar Status for academic achievement. Over the course of his career, Shoop was named Scout Player of the Week on all sides of the ball numerous times.
Shoop graduated from Tennessee with a degree in business analytics in May 2021.
