Soccer Drops Home Match to Texas

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Soccer fell 2-0 to Texas on Sunday afternoon at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Longhorns (6-2-3, 1-1-2 SEC) opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the match. Ashlyn Anderson scored her third goal of the season at the 1:10 mark off an assist from Alicia Riggins.
Ole Miss (7-5-0, 0-4-0 SEC) responded by forcing Texas goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn into three saves during a five-minute stretch. Flynn stopped attempts from Teaghan Irvin in the 17th minute, Sarah Granno in the 18th and Maizy Kluksdal in the 22nd.
The Rebels continued to create chances throughout the opening half, finishing the period with a 9-6 advantage in shots. Jenna Studer, Isabella Pontieri and Ryann Reynolds also recorded attempts as Ole Miss entered halftime trailing 1-0.
Ava Ghoreishi would add another attempt on goal in the 54th minute, but Flynn made the save to maintain the Texas advantage. The Longhorns doubled their lead at the 61:34 mark when Ava McDonald scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Vivian Geesbreght.
Ole Miss continued to push forward following the second goal, earning four corner kicks over the final 25 minutes. Bella Leonard produced the Rebels' final attempt on target in the 81st minute, but Flynn made her fifth save to preserve the shutout.
The Rebels finished with a 16-13 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, while both teams placed five attempts on goal. Granno led Ole Miss with three shots, while Evie Ewing, Ghoreishi and Reynolds recorded two apiece.
Taylor Prigge played all 90 minutes in goal for the Rebels and finished with three saves.
Ole Miss returns to the road Friday to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
