Football Drops First SEC Road Game at No. 21 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4 Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) football team faced their first road test of the season, falling at No. 21 Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC) 52-28 on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Trinidad Chambliss tallied more than 300 yards of total offense despite the loss, while Deuce Alexander recorded 134 yards on seven catches. It marked Alexander's second 100-yard receiving game of the season.

Offensive Leaders
Chambliss finished the day 25-of-34 through the air for 298 yards and one touchdown, while adding 64 yards and two scores on the ground. He recorded his 17th consecutive game with a touchdown pass, the third-longest streak in school history behind Matt Corral's 19-game run. Deuce Alexander led the Rebels in receiving, while Johntay Cook added four catches for 35 yards.

Defensive Leaders
Linebacker Keaton Thomas led the Ole Miss defense with 11 tackles while adding a pass breakup in coverage. Jehiem Oatis recorded an Ole Miss career-high four total tackles, while Blake Purchase recorded a tackle for loss for the second consecutive game.

First Quarter
Florida opened the game with a 65-yard drive to take an early lead before adding a field goal on its next possession to go up 10-0. Ole Miss was unable to get on the scoreboard on its three first-quarter drives.

Second Quarter
Early in the second quarter, the Rebels got on the board with a 36-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro to make it 10-3 with 10:13 remaining in the half. Florida would extend its lead later in the quarter, making it 17-3 with just under three minutes remaining.

On the ensuing Ole Miss possession, the Rebels moved down the field behind a pair of big completions from Trinidad Chambliss to Deuce Alexander. From 46 yards out on the right hash, Carneiro converted once again to make it 17-6 at halftime.

Third Quarter
After receiving the ball to begin the second half, Chambliss found Alexander for a 49-yard pass on the third play of the drive. Two plays later, Chambliss scampered in for his 100th career collegiate touchdown, bringing the Rebels within three at 17-14.

Florida responded on its next possession with a 45-yard rushing touchdown, but the Rebels answered with a methodical drive of their own. After converting on fourth-and-short from inside the red zone, Chambliss took the ball around the left side on the next play and scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, cutting the deficit to 24-21.

A quick response from the Gators pushed the Ole Miss deficit back to 10, making it 31-21 with 3:45 remaining in the quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Florida opened the final quarter with the ball in the red zone and quickly extended its lead to 38-21, driving down the field before scoring on a five-yard touchdown pass.

Ole Miss answered when Chambliss found Alexander for a short touchdown pass in the flat, cutting the deficit to 38-28. The Gators added two more touchdowns before time expired.

Next Up
Ole Miss will have a bye next weekend before hitting the road again to take on Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 10.
