Long Ball Powers Softball Past Samford

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program made its return home count, rallying past Samford to earn a 6-2 victory on Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (26-15, 2-10 SEC) recovered from a first inning deficit to notch home runs from Madi George and Rachel Connors. Emilee Boyer matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts in the complete game victory over the Bulldogs (17-24, 7-2 SoCon).
Despite two runs by the visitors in the opening frame, behind a Rebel error, the hosts recovered to slowly turn around the day. The Rebels manufactured a run in the opening inning, as Kennedy Bunker and Persy Llamas each reached on errors. After Bunker moved to third base on a fielder's choice, Cassie Reasner continued her red-hot form, driving an RBI single up the middle to cut Samford's lead to 2-1.
Boyer remained composed after the shaky start, breezing through the next three frames without much issue. The Rebels were able to erase the lead in the bottom half of the inning, as a leadoff double by George set the tone. Alexa Rosales pinch ran for George and advanced to third on a fly out, before Taylor Roman drove her home on a towering sacrifice fly to center field to make it 2-2.
A timely challenge by head coach Jamie Trachsel helped preserve the 2-2 score line, as Samford was called for interference on a play at first base, that could have resulted in runners at the corners with no outs. Instead, Boyer bounced back, striking out the next two batters to get out of the inning.
Ole Miss would create some two-out magic in the fifth inning, as a Mackenzie Pickens walk and Llamas single gave George a run scoring opportunity. The freshman blasted her team-leading 11th home run of the season, to enter the single-season top-10 in home runs at Ole Miss and break the game open with a 5-2 lead.
Trachsel and the Rebels pressed the right button once again in the sixth inning, calling on Connors to pinch hit. The sophomore unloaded on an 0-1 pitch to tally her second home run of the season and extend the lead to 6-2.
Boyer finished off another complete game in the seventh inning, picking up her 10th strikeout of the night to secure the Rebels' 14th consecutive non-conference victory.
The Rebels return to SEC play this weekend, welcoming No. 13 Texas A&M to town for a three-game series. Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
