The Rebels (26-16, 2-11 SEC) pushed for a rally, but could not overcome the early Aggies (28-12, 9-4 SEC) advantage. Madi George led the way for the offense with two home runs and three RBI.

The night started poorly for the hosts, as the Aggies surged to score six runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning to build a 9-0 advantage.

However, the Rebels began to chip away. A second inning single by Cassie Reasner set the tone for the offense, who generated the first run of the game on an error later in the frame. From there, Taylor Malvin tacked on another run with an RBI double to score Laylonna Applin and make it 9-2.

In the third inning, George helped shave the lead even further, blasting her twelfth home run of the season to make it 9-3. Applin would do the same in the fourth inning, shaving the lead to 9-4 with a solo home run.

The Aggies were able to generate a sacrifice fly to make it 10-4 in the fifth inning, but the Rebels answered in the bottom half of the frame. After Persy Llamas was hit by a pitch, George teed off on an 0-1 pitch for her second home run of the day, cutting the Aggie lead to just 10-6.

Malvin tried to keep the rally going with her third hit of the evening in the sixth inning, but the Rebels were unable to chip away further, ultimately coming up short, despite finishing even on hits with the visitors. ย

The Rebels will face off against the Aggies in game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
