Women’s Tennis Defeats Mississippi State in 4-3 Thriller
4/2/2026 | Women's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – After falling behind early, No. 45 Ole Miss women's tennis stormed back to take down No. 51 Mississippi State, 4-3, in a match that came down to the final court on Thursday night at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.
Ole Miss (10-9, 4-8 SEC) was able to put together a win against in-state rival No. 51
In doubles, the Bulldogs (15-9, 3-9 SEC) made a statement, winning decisively on courts one and two. Beatrice Stagno and Brooklyn Olson's doubles court would go unfinished, but they came close to closing out their match against Thessy Ntondele Zinga and Emma Cohen, for they held a 5-3 advantage before play concluded.
The Rebels responded quickly in singles, with No. 18 Emily Welker getting the Rebels on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Gianna Oboniye. Ichino Horikawa would follow soon after, for she would defeat Carolina Troiano, 6-4, 6-2, to put Ole Miss back in front 2-1.
Andrea Nova would finish next and would defeat Ntongele Zinga, 6-2, 6-4, to increase the Rebels' lead to 3-1.
The final three courts would be tricky. Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocs would get the best of Alice Soulié, winning in the third set, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Then Mia Robinson would knot the match up 3-3 after defeating Stagno, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The deciding matchup would take place on court four, between Riley Crowder and Chiara Di Genova. The first set would be decided in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). Di Genova would win the second set to force a third.
In the third set, Crowder took control and powered the Rebels to victory, winning a decisive 6-1 set. The victory marked eight straight wins for Ole Miss against Mississippi State, going back to 2018.
