Madi George Sets Single Season Home Run Record in Softball’s Loss at No. 15 LSU
4/19/2026 | Softball
BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss freshman Madi George made history, but the Rebels were unable to hold off No. 15 LSU, falling 8-5 in the finale of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.
George set a new single-season home run at Ole Miss, tallying two home runs on the day to break Lexie Brady’s record of 17 set last season. George drove in three runs for the Rebels (27-21, 2-16 SEC) while the Rebels tallied four home runs on the day, despite the loss to the Tigers (32-14, 9-9 SEC).
Once again, the Rebels got off to a hot start via the bat of George, who made LSU pitcher Jayden Heavener pay for a walk issued to Mackenzie Pickens. George blasted a two-run home run over the scoreboard and on to the Mike Moore Performance Center roof in right field to make it 2-0.
LSU struck for two runs to tie the game in the second inning, but were able to take the lead shortly thereafter on a strikeout, throw down effort that resulted in a two-run error and a 4-2 LSU lead.
The Rebel offense continued to surge after a scoreless third inning and exploded to take the lead in the fourth inning. Kennedy Bunker led off the frame with a solo home run to make it 4-3. From there, George and Cassie Reasner delivered back-to-back solo home runs with two outs to retake a 5-4 lead. George’s home run proved to be her second of the game and her record-breaking 18th of the season.
Rebels starting pitcher Emilee Boyer shut the Tigers down in the fourth inning, but the Tigers managed to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning at 5-5 on a solo home run.
The Rebels were unable to hold the Tigers off further, getting two outs in the sixth inning, before an RBI triple and error allowed two runs to come home and make it 7-5. Ultimately, the Tigers would secure an 8-5 victory, despite the Rebels bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning.
The Rebels return home to wrap up the non-conference slate on Tuesday, hosting Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. CT game. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
